Chapter 4 - Burgers and fries

I waited for a text back but it didn't come, I frowned and stood up, putting my phone to charge and going downstairs. I made myself a sandwich for dinner before going back upstairs and watching a movie on my laptop.

I laughed at the funny parts and smiled at the romantic parts, and when the movie was over, and my sandwich was gone, I put my laptop on my dresser and took my plate downstairs. I put it in the sink before going back upstairs, my phone chimed and I saw a text from Jasper.

I smiled and put my phone in my pocket, looking in the mirror, I was in black ripped jeans and an oversized green hoodie. It wasn't classy but it was good enough for a casual hangout, I brushed my hair quickly and put on my combat boots.

I went downstairs and saw Charlie sitting at the dining room table, "hey Dad, I'm gonna hang out with a friend" I said. He looked at the clock and then at me, "it's 6pm" he said, I nodded "I know" I said.

"People only go out at 6pm if they're going on dates, or going to meet boys" he said, I rolled my eyes, "does this look like something I'd wear on a date?" I asked. He looked at my outfit and shook his head, "fine, be back at 9" he said.

"Dad..." I whined, he sighed, "fine, 10:30 at the latest" he said, I smiled and hugged him, "thank you" I said. There was a knock at the door. How could he be hear this quickly?

I opened the door and saw Jasper, I smiled, "hi Jasper" I said, Charlie looked up, "that sounds suspiciously like a boys name" he said. I looked at Jasper, "you can come in if you'd like" I said.

"Thank you" he said, stepping inside, Charlie stood up, "you're Jasper, one of Carlisle's kids" he said. Jasper nodded "yes, sir" he said, Charlie narrowed his eyes, "I'm Maya's Dad, Charlie, where do you plan on taking her?" He asked.

"My house" Jasper said, I watched my dad carefully, I didn't want him messing this up, "will your parents be home?" He asked. Jasper nodded "yes, sir" he said.

"Her curfew is at 10:30, I suggest you get her here by 10 if you want on my good side" Charlie said, I rolled my eyes but Jasper nodded again. "Yes, sir" he said, Jasper and I went outside and he walked me over to his car.

"So where are we really going?" I asked as we both got in, "what makes you think we're not going to my house?" He asked.

"I have a hunch" I said, he smiled and turned on the car, "your hunch is correct, we're going to the diner" he said. Starting the car, we started driving, he stopped outside the diner and we got out, going inside.

We sat down and were given menus, "what do you want to eat?" He asked, I looked at the menu and immediately saw my favourite meal, a bacon burger and home fries. I showed him and he seemed amused.

"What, bacon is delicious" I said, he chuckled and the waitress care over, I told her what I wanted but Jasper didn't order anything. "Aren't you going to eat?" I asked.

"I'm not that hungry, I had dinner earlier" he said, something told me he was lying but I shrugged, seeing the waitress return with my food. My face lit up as she set it down, I thanked her before taking a bite of the burger.

Jasper just watched as I ate the whole thing before starting on the fries, "come on, at least eat something" I said. He shook his head, "I'm not hungry" he said.

"Come on, I'm not taking no for an answer" I said, crossing my arms, he chuckled, "alright" he said, taking a fry, he was hesitant but ate it anyway. I smiled and finished my fries, the waitress came over and took the empty plate.

I tried to pay for the meal but Jasper wouldn't let me, no matter how much I told him it was fine. Then we went outside and leaned against his car, "so what the deal with you?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" He asked, I put my hands in my pockets, "well, you know a ton about me, but I don't know that much about you, or any of your siblings" I said.

"There isn't that much to tell" he said plainly, I turned to face him, "try me" I said, he sighed. "Look, I like you, you're fun to hang out with, you're always positive, but I'm different, I don't have friends, and I can't explain why" he said.

I looked at the ground and he sighed, "come on, I'll drive you home" he said, opening the door for me. I got in and he got in the other side, driving me home and stopping outside the house. "I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked.

"Sure" I said, getting out of the car and going up to the house, I went inside and upstairs, going into my room and looking out the window. I watched him drive away and I sighed, getting into bed without bothering to change my clothes.
