His face. God, his face was so perfect. He remembered what it felt like to cup in in his hands, to kiss those lips. How soft and sweet it was, and how much he loved him.
God, he loved him.
He also remembered when Eddie pulled him aside, telling him about his father. He remembered how Eddie cried on him, and how they stood up all night talking about life and death and how cruel things could be. They also talked about hope.
Hope.
He remembered when Eddie gave him the promise ring, and how he felt so... right. Perfect. How all their coworkers noticed, and how they were the office couple. How happy he was- no, how happy they were.
He also remembered when his hope was crushed. His doubts. That crushing moment when Eddie took him aside and told him.
He was leaving to Florida.
He hoped for a long distance relationship, and how much he cried when his doubts clouded over him. Eddie promised to keep talking to him. He told him how much he loved him.
He remembered the airport, and how their kiss made their tears mesh together, salty steams dripping down both of their faces.
Their last goodbye.
He remembered them constantly Skype calling and texting, every day. They had a set time- every day at 6:00 EST. They would talk for hours, like they were never apart.
He remembered the first time Eddie didn't answer.
How he seemed suddenly secretive, and distant.
How the calls and texts dwindled to nearly none, every encounter making him more awkward.
He remembered when he threw his promise ring into a river, feeling angry and hopeless to the world, feeling as if the promise meant nothing now.
He remembered when he immediately started crying, ripping off his shirt to dive in and try to find it.
He never found it.
