Our Hawkins

The restless wheels of my body and car
were driven by swelling eyes and a scar.
Here, there were shivering hands, lived in war.
I wanted healing in somewhere but far.

Farewell to fake laughs in Castle Byers.
We laid in lies and bathed under showers
of secrets. We cried, created monsters
in Upside Down. We lost, chased painkillers.

It was like home but too dark, empty, cold
in The Vale of Shadows, we were not bold.
So, that Demogorgon, hideous and old,
ate love and feelings that we couldn’t  hold.

On the same Maple Street, we biked that lane
so we could forget ourselves and the pain,
hurried down the roads until there was rain.
You yelled. I wept. We were getting insane!

Wasn’t Eleven but I was bleeding
emotionally. Your tongue kept saying,
you love me but I saw your veins, running,
choking me out of breath. I was dying.

There were stranger things so,  I drove in blue.
Kilometers gave distorted night’s hue,
from the signboard to the welcoming view,
I was no longer in Hawkins and you.
