Rewritten December 20

//

Have you ever felt like . . . You didn’t belong? You always think that there will be a place for you to thrive in, that that place will never do you wrong, but you know it’ll take time to get there? Like a wandering spirit, you walk around lifeless without a purpose, wondering if there even is a place for you to belong in, wondering if such a thing even exists?

. . .

Have you ever had that feeling where you feel . . . vulnerable? Too vulnerable? I’m not even sure if there is such a thing as too much vulnerability, but I always feel like that.

My quirk, I guess it is a strong one, but I don’t like it. It is similar to my dad's quirk. Too similar. My quirk has aspects similar to my mothers quirk as well, but mostly looks a lot like my dads.

My dad's quirk is called “Monster”, which I always thought the name suited him. He can turn into this big, hairy, pitch black monster that has a long snout with large fangs, giant claws, black ram horns, a short, fluffy tail, and blood-red eyes(one on the left and two on the right). Unlike me, he has two forms: his regular, everyday human form and that monster form.

My mothers quirk is called “Claws”. All she can simply do is grow long, razor sharp claws from her nails that turn black. It’s simple, but that quirk plus my fathers equals mine.

My quirk is similar to my dads, as I’ve said, but the name is different. It’s called “Beast”. I have three forms instead of two. I have my regular human form; a form that is in the middle that makes my forearms and hands turn black with big paws + claws and my legs from the knee and down also turn black with dog like paws that have smaller claws and even paw pads; and my final form which is the beast form, where I turn into a creature like my father but is slightly smaller, since I’m still young, with large, pointy canines, three big spikes on my back, goat/deer ears, four horns(two small ones and two longer ones right behind those), and instead of blood-red eyes, mine are pink(Just regular two eyes, not three).

It sounds complicated, yeah, but that’s my explanation. . .

My name. . .

I forgot about my name. . .

It’s-

My name is Miyamoto Minori.

Sometimes I wish I had a friend so they can give me a nickname like “Mino” or “Min-Min”. . .

Remember how I said something about a feeling? A feeling where you don’t belong in the place you’re in? That’s-

. . .

That’s how I feel right now.

That’s how I feel. every. single. day of my life.

Every single day since I turned 5.

THUMP!!

There goes a fluffy, black-haired teenager with horns, goat/deer ears, and a tail, thrown on the ground like a dirty t-shirt that’s just strung upon the surface of a room because someone was too lazy to throw it in a hamper. His head hit the wall. Now there’s a small splatter of blood on there.

“Oi!” The booming voice of the ram horned man who towered above the scared boy echoed. “Are you listenin’ to me, ya little brat? It’s like you aren’t hearin’ a word I’m sayin’! Like you’ve gone deaf or somethin’!” He laughed, but it didn’t sound like he found anything amusing.

Minori just flinched in response, not a single word uttered from his lips that were pressed together in a thin line. "Look at me when I'm talking to you, you little bitch-!" A hand abruptly grabbed him at the jaw, forcing him to look up at those red eyes.

"Now that’s better, ya piece of shit.” The older man glared. “You listen when I tell ya to listen, okay?” His voice was low and threatening. A tone that Minori knew too well for his liking. “Say something’, ya freak! Acknowledge when I’m talkin’ to you, boy!” He yelled as he tugged harder on Minori’s hair.

The boy winced but forced himself to nod his head as best as he could with his dad forcing his head up by a fistful of hair.

“Good. Now tell me, why is there a receipt in the trash of food that I didn’t know about, huh?”

I guess he found out.

“It was- It was from a week- a week ago? I- m-maybe you- uh- maybe you forgot. .?” He lied, hoping his dad would believe him. After years of not believing in hope after all the hoping he did, he knew his dad wouldn’t believe his words. Hell- he didn’t even believe them, they were a lie- an obvious one at that.

“Don’t lie to me, kid, ya know what happens when you do. But I’m feelin’ nice, so if ya tell me the truth, your punishment will be light.”

Minori knew that that was a lie. It doesn’t hurt to hope, right? Oh, who is he kidding, you already heard the shit about him not believing in hope anymore.

And so he stayed quiet. Staying quiet always made things worse from past experiences, but he just . . Didn’t know what to say. ‘Oh, yeah, I totally got food without your permission and ate it cos’ you neglected me and denied my request for a teeny tiny piece of bread when I was in pain from hunger.

Yeah.

That totally would go well.

“Stayin’ quiet now, ain’t ya? I know a way to make you talk-“ RING!! . . . RING!!

The man glared at his phone on the coffee table. “You’re lucky this time, ya brat. .” He said when he turned back to Minori, letting go of his hair. Minori watched as his dad picked up the phone before the person calling went to voicemail, hearing his heartbeat in his ears.

“Yeah, boss? Extra shift? What’d’ya mean extra shift? I did the last one!”

Minori didn’t want to hear the rest of his dad's conversation with his boss. He quickly, and quietly, made his way to his room, avoiding all the creaky floorboards out of habit.

When he got there, he shut the door behind him with a soft click! What does he do now, you ask? He mumbles to himself, calling himself stupid for not throwing out the receipt out in a public trashcan like all the other times before.

“Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. The one time you forget to throw it out in some trash can or dumpster, he finds it. Stupid. Stupid.” He muttered to himself as he softly hit his head on the bedpost.

He stopped.

“Oh wait- hold on-“

He checked his phone. “Wh-What?!” He whisper-yelled to himself. “I’m gonna be late for the entrance exam!” He whisper-yelled again.

He was in a bit of a panicked state as he got himself ready. While putting on his middle school uniform, as was requested by U.A. for the applicants, his ears twitched when he heard his dad grumble about his boss before hearing the front door open and shut. Minori peeked from the curtains of his window and saw his dad get into his car and drive away.

" Dad was right. . I am lucky today. " he grinned to himself, glad that he wouldn't have to worry about his dad finding out he snuck out. Especially since his mom was already at work and wouldn't get home until 9pm today.

He grabbed his backpack from his small closet and stuffed a random t-shirt and shorts along with a tiny pouch of money that he retrieved from under his mattress. The boy figured that he should buy food to fuel himself before and after the practical part of the entrance exam.

He'd make sure to throw out the receipt first thing this time.
