Being born into a family of witches was hard. Not inheriting any of your families abilities was even harder.

Piper was the black sheep of her family and also her community. Salem blood ran through her veins no doubt, but she was as normal as they came.

She was a normal Twenty-one year old girl existing in a world of supernatural beings that she'd never get the chance to truly be a part of.

To other humans, witches, wolves, and fairies were all just part of a world of manmade fiction. They were just things that you seen on television or in the makings of children's storybooks. For Piper all of these things were a reality.

She had finally finished carrying the last of her boxes into her new apartment. Portland Oregon was her new home now. She needed a fresh start somewhere were people wouldn't know her name. She was tired of being who she was. She was tired of being the outcast in the mortal, immortal, and magical world.

Being a police chief's kid in the small town where she grew up was already hard enough. But mixing this with her inability to do magic was like having a shadow of impending disappointment above her head at all times. She had to go. She just needed a breather. It seemed like she was stuck in Illinois; like she was on a rollercoaster going backwards on repeat.

Piper regretted nothing. Portland wasn't the biggest place on earth and it didn't have the nicest weather but it was fresh and new, and the atmosphere was welcoming. She needed this for herself. She had always been the type to put others wants and needs before her own but now she just wanted to be a little selfish. She deserved to be.

Her apartment was fairly small with a spacious living room. It had just enough room for herself, and a spare bedroom for packing and shipping all of her cosmetic products. It was cute. She decorated it in pale pink and white colors, the way she'd always wanted. It was comfortable. She sat the last box of equipment in her product room and went to the kitchen to grab herself a bottle of water, then she went to the living room and kicked up her feet on the pretty white couch.

She checked her phone and seen that she had five missed calls from her worrisome mother.

Connie begged her daughter to stay, up until she left. She had always been clingy that way, but Piper knew that it was solely based off of love. Connie was always trying to convince her that no one was perfect, but unfortunately perfection wasn't a goal that Piper burdened herself with; She was only looking for peace. Her home didn't give that to her. After years of battling anxiety and depression this move made her feel like she was rising from the ashes.

Being one of the best witches of her generation gave her mother Connie no room to talk anyways. Connie was a psychic, but she was also blessed with pyrokinesis: the ability to control fire with her mind. It was rare for a witch to inherit two powers but it was even more rare for a witch to be able to control the elements. These abilities mostly belonged to fairies but were passed down through the generations of women in her family as well. For reasons unbeknownst to Piper or her mother, every supernatural ability had completely skipped over her.

Piper texted her mother letting her know that she made it home safe and had everything ready to go. She let her know that she was settled in and then sent her Connie her love and locked the phone.

She grabbed the remote from her coffee table and turned her TV to Netflix. She started watching Grey's anatomy where she had left off. Two episodes in Piper received a text from her group chat. Months before she moved Piper decided to join a Facebook group of young entrepreneurs in Portland in hopes of getting to know the city and it's people a bit better. All of the girls were dope and very welcoming. A few were inviting her to have drinks at a local bar near her house. She told them she was up for it and would meet them at 9pm, that way she could be ready on time. She was excited. She never had many friends; things were quickly looking up for her.
