Ray was the spy....

The entire day, my mind was blank except this one thought. I drifted through the activities as if my body was possessed by another Jenna, telling me I must carry on. I could not fathom the thought that this was the answer to my problems and that creepy feeling in my gut. I thought of it and it made sense, why Ray was the calmest and how he seemed like he expected everything and how his actions all made sense if he was the spy. Still, I doubted him. He was my twin brother and I have known him for about six years. I was desperate that the one closest to me was actually against me. My face turned pale as I suddenly realized that he knew I also had memories... he knew that I know about the truth behind the farm. Was I going to get shipped? Why didn't he tell Mom to ship me off yet? 

Later that day, I was trudging along the corridors when I heard voices in the boy's halls. Curious, I peered into a room and saw Ray with Norman, they were sitting facing each other on two beds. 

"-but I'm not your ally either. I won't even try to take part in any ridiculous plans, so I did all I could to restrict you guys. You should know what I mean, it all depends on the conditions." Ray said with an intimidating look. I quickly withdrew my head and leaned in again, making sure I would not be caught. 

"If conditions are favourable, I wouldn't mind selling out and becoming your trump card." 

Trump card... so Ray really was the spy after all? But how is that a trump card?

"What do you mean?" Norman asked, his voice sounded defeated and hesitant. I held my breath and kept on listening.

"I want you to fool Emma." 

Fool Emma? What's going on? Is she getting shipped? Is he doing something to her? Curiosity was biting me but I held it in. 

"Pretend we're bringing everyone, then ditch everyone at the last second. I will allow Don and Gilda to come along, everyone is being left behind." Ray said. 

"You want me to give up, bringing everyone..? After all the training? They have improved so much and you even said so, you weren't lying." Norman said, desperately. 

"Yes I do admit, but they are still dead weight in the end. If you want my help, you have to listen. Or you could just await your death." Ray said. I shivered, I could not imagine he just told us to await our death. I clamped my hand over my mouth to stop myself from saying anything. 

"Fine." Norman said finally. "What about Jenna, are you going to tell her the truth?" 

I burst into the room, suddenly. "Yea Ray, when are you going to tell me about this? When were you going to tell me the truth, you.. a spy? You want to ditch everyone?" I angry stomped to them, my fist clenched. I could barely hold my anger in. Norman jumped and Ray was taken back. 

"Jenna! H-How long were you listening for?" Norman looked at me, concerned. You dumb boy, how could you be concerned at me when you should be for yourself?  "I heard everything after you guys talking about a trump card. I also realized that Ray was the spy, I only wanted to come and have you say its a joke, but it's actually true. Norman, please leave for a while. I need to catch up with Ray." I spat and Norman quickly got up, alarmed at my tone. He quietly nodded and slipped out. Ray looked at me calmly and my tears came flowing out as I glared at his coal eyes, cold and stiff. 

"How could you not tell me, I said we were going to do this together, and yet you sell yourself to mom and the farm?! How could you not tell your..." I hiccuped, "twin sister? We were a team and you ditch me like this?" Ray looked at me, his expression was unreadable. 
"Jenna are you going to be quiet or do you want this entire farm to know that we are related? Plus," he narrowed his eyes, "I'm sure you also had your way of staying alive until today when mom knew about your... secret. I'm not going to press you about your deal but at least my deal could be beneficial for us all. I had no choice but to sell myself to the enemy." He hissed. 

My eyes widened.

"Mama.. are you going to kill me and Ray?" I asked her. I was outside, on the lower branch of a tree, reading a book. Mother looked at me with a sad smile.  

"Can we make a deal? I just ask that you don't ship us off until we have to go. I'll keep my mouth shut and help others improve their score. You get shipped of based on your score right? So I will help my brothers and sisters prepare for the test so they can all be smart like me." I jumped off the branch and looked at Mother. She smiled and went on one knee, "And how will I know that you can even help them?" She looked at me sympathetically. "Your one of the youngest, how are you going to help the children that are older than you?" 

I shrugged, "Ray and I have already read almost all the books in the library in less than a year. I know some people don't even read at all. Then at least, I could teach them the stuff I learned from the books right?" I smiled and held out my hand. "Deal, Mama?" 

Mother smiled and shook my hand. "Deal."

After that day, Mother allowed me to go into her office to get supplies such as pen and paper for me to teach the children with and I had used it to observe the room as much as I could, memorizing everything she had on the shelves and desks. I made note of when things were misplaced or changed and always looked for any different changes. That was how I discovered the secret room. I was on a ladder grabbing book when I slipped and grabbed the side of the bookshelf. It slid to the slide and I almost fell off the ladder completely. I immediately knew that this was the place she always disappears every night and this was probably the place she could communicate with the outside. 

I looked at Ray, guilt seeping in.

"You begged mom to save us? Why would you not just care about your wellbeing?" He stammered. 

"I knew you were also different and I was worried Mom would also target you.." I sniffed and wiped my tears on my shirt sleeves. "You promised we were going to be in this together so I had to make sure we were both safe. I should have known you already had become Mom's spy, but you didn't even tell me?" 

"I-I'm sorry..." Ray finally said and looked at me. I looked at him and I could see that he was also upset. 

"Don't ever keep secrets from me again okay?" I went over and patted him on the arms. "Now that's over, let's discuss what we have been gathering these past 6 years, shall we?" I grabbed him and brought him to the library. He trailed behind me quietly and followed me to the big library. I had a lot to show him, and now that I finally knew the real truth, I was determined to survive this even more.

AHAHAH sorry there are SO MANY flashbacks in here, gotta give yall a bit more information about our lovely Jenna here. There's still more to her story, remember Mark? Well, there's a bit we still don't know about them.... ;)
