"Marie, you need to push now." The nurse demanded. Marie was excited to meet her baby, even if the weight of knowing the world she was bringing her into tinged the edges of what should be a rose colored memory.
With a final push, her little girl was finally born. Overcome with intense emotions, Marie couldn't help the tears that streaked her face. An overwhelming amount of warmth washed over her and she knew what she had to do. Fleeing with a newborn wouldn't be easy. Especially being labeled as rogue, but it was sure better than what these zealots would do if she remained here. They had wicked plans for her little Lucy and Marie would risk anything to keep them from following through with them.
After a day Marie would carry out her plan. She needed the time to heal and regain some her strength before she would even stand a chance at escaping. They knew better than to take a newborn away from her mother at such a young age as well. They wouldn't risk Lucy's life, not yet anyway, they needed her too badly. Being a rogue with a newborn would be hard, Marie had no doubt, but staying meant condemning her child to a horrific fate. They would do almost anything to be able to shift again, even if it meant surrendering their souls in order to obtain the ability.
Marie was prepared to leave by the next night, what she wasn't prepared for was them taking Lucy only to bring her back screaming in pain.
"What did you do to my baby?" She cried.
"We gave her the brand of Selene, she has been blessed. She is truly our Sacred One. You should be proud she was chosen." The woman left the room after defending their barbaric treatment of my newborn. Marie checked Lucy over only to find a burn mark under her collar bone, in the shape of a crescent moon. Tears filled Marie's eyes as she realized the pain her daughter was in. The brand was just another part of their plan to keep their hands on Lucy, Marie was sure. She was know easily identifiable, which made hiding, once they left, an even greater hurdle. This wasn't the catalyst for her escape, only an addition to a long list of atrocities this pack has committed and plans to commit.
Only taking the necessities, leaving was much easier than Marie anticipated. They underestimated her tired body, leaving the room unguarded, believing childbirth had rendered her too exhausted to make any sort of move. They severely miscalculated a mother's love for her child.
The night was eerily calm, leaving an unsettling feeling in Marie's gut. However, knowing she was making the right decision, Marie would never look back. Now she only had Lucy and her only goal was to keep Lucy as far from this pack as possible. On some level Marie swore Lucy had an understanding of the situation as she didn't so much as sniffle. Lucy's cooperation made their escape that much easier and before Marie knew it they had made it to neutral territory.
