“Yeah you did. Liar.” Lil Auggie yelled.

“Unh. Y’all always believe him. Without even hearing me first.”

“You heard what I said. Do it again and see don’t I tear your ass up.” August told her.

She started crying and ran out.

“I hate everybody in the house! I want to live with Uncle Boobie and Auntie Stacy!” She yelled to the top of her lungs then went in her room and slammed the door.

August got up.

“Aug just let it be.”

“No she not gon be slamming no doors around here in my house.”

He went in the closet and got a small belt, then left out.

I sighed and shook my head. So much for sleep.

 “Mommy.” A3 tapped my thigh.

“Yes hun.” I said putting the finishing touches on Tanya’s birthday cake.

“Can I have some?”

“No this is for Auntie Tanya.

“Auntie Tanya?”

“Mm-hm. Her birthday party is tonight.”

“Can I just have a little, bitty, piece?”

“No Auggie. It’s for the people at her party.”

“Can I go to the party?”

“No it’s for adults only baby.” I licked some of the frosting off my fingers.

“Why?”

“Because it is. Now stop asking mommy questions and go in the den and watch tv with Sata.”

“Me no want tv, me want cake.”

“If it’s some left, I’ll bring you a slice okay?” I put the cake in the cake container and put it on the kitchen table.

“But I thought I was your favorite man?”

“You are.” I patted his head.

“Unh-unh if you won’t give me no cake.”

“Auggie you getting on mommy nerve. Please go in there with Sata.” I sighed and put the ingredients back in the fridge.

He poked out his lip and turned his face like he was about to cry.

“Those tears are not going to work this time Auggie.” I looked at him with my lips turned up. Like boy quit.

“Here Auggie take some cookies.” I handed him some cookies. He threw them on the floor.

“Pick that up.”

“No! I want cake!”

I took his little hand and tapped it a couple of times. He picked up the cookies and threw them away, then ran off crying.

These kids were wearing me out today. I went into the Den to tell Sata to watch Auggie while I got ready. Tanya was turning 49. And she rented out a small club to have her party. She said she wanted to enjoy the last of her 40s. Aug agreed to watch the kids.

I had finished getting ready and came into the bed room, fluffing my hair.

“Whoooooa...” August sat up.

“What’s wrong?” I looked back at him concerned.

“Where you going with that on?”

“To Tanya’s party.” I scrunched up my face annoyed he would even ask me that.
