Same Conversation Twice

Start from the beginning

"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey," Brooks said running up behind me, "What about your dinner plans? Sawyer told me about them. I was really excited."

"I didn't think my babysitters would want to come, well you. I heard what you said about me, but no harm no foul right? Oh and I don't want to be a charity cause to you so please don't bother picking me up tomorrow," I said moving away, but turned around, "Oh, and you are welcome to come. I have to tell you something anyway." I walked out around him and made my way down the hall when I heard running footsteps, I turned around and saw Rhett.

"Hey Reece, you need a ride?" Rhett asked me.

"How did you know I needed-" I started.

"Well I saw you push away Brooks and you look like you saw a ghost earlier when you came to talk to us, and I'm assuming you heard Brooks' comment on babysitters," Rhett said cutting me off.

"Um, yeah. Why are you offering me a ride?" I said crossing my arms.

"Because I'm being nice?" Rhett said.

"Are you sure it's not because you're my babysitter," I smiled.

"Hey if I wanted to get in your pants I'd find another way," he laughed.

"Wait what does that mean?"

"You don't notice Brooks' obvious flirting?"

"He doesn't flirt what do you mean?"

He stopped walking, sighed, facepalmed, and said, "And people say I'm clueless. Dude got jealous when I talked to you this morning, he gets overprotective even during lunch, he paid for your lunch, and why do you think he's bringing Madison who by the way he thinks her name is Mackenzie?"

"Yeah I still don't get why he's doing that, I think it's because of the paycheck my mom's giving him honestly," I shrugged walking over to Rhett's car.

"No, I trust you it's not that. He's trying to make you jealous because he thinks you like me. Which is ridiculous right?" he said opening the door for me, "Anyways me bringing you home is not helping my case. But you know what? I don't care."

"Yeah, ridiculous anyone would think that," I said faking a smile. Maybe that girl from government was right, Becca, I can try to deny that I'll never catch feelings but one day I'll realize I want what's not there.

We drove to my place singing songs and just talking about our first day experiences, turns out a teacher already hates him for rejecting her daughter, yikes. About 10 minutes later he pulled into my driveway and hopped out the car, "Here let me help you take your stuff inside."

"Thanks," I smiled, "Oh and if you haven't heard from Sawyer yet, do you want to have dinner with my mom and one of my newfound friends?"

"Most definitely," he winked. He grabbed some of my bags and I rang the doorbell, I could hear singing, terrible singing.

"Oh my God, I am so sorry you have to hear that," I said.

"Is that rap?" he asked laughing.

"She tries to be a fun mom," I said hitting the door, "Mother answer the door." And luckily my prayers were answered because my mom answered and she was, well surprised to say the least.

"Hi, Reece! And who is this nice man?" my mother asked as she opened the door for both of us to come in, "Come on in!"

"Mom, this is Rhett Davidson. He's one of the boys coming over for dinner at 6:30," I said showing Rhett off.

"That's me, very nice to meet you Mrs... uh,"Rhett started.

"Mrs. Harrington," my mom smiled back.

"Thank you, well Mrs. Harrington Brooks had something come up so I asked Reece if she'd like a ride home with me, I hope it was not a problem."

Okay, who knew this boy had some serious manners?

"Oh of course not it is no problem at all!" and at this point my mom was beaming, do all adults just fall for the charm the boys give off, "Do you just want to stay over until dinner begins?"

"Mom it's like 5:15," I butted in.

"Ahah," Rhett laughed, "I'd love to, but I should probably go home and change first."

"Oh, of course, you do that. And do you think the rest of your family would like to come over?" My mom said. Gosh, leave the poor boy alone mother.

I mouthed to Rhett an I'm sorry, to which he smiled at and said, "You know what Mrs. Harrington? I think they would love it."

"Perfect! And I'll invite the Radford family as well!" Mom said thrilled.

"Brooks' family?" I asked speechlessly.

"Well yes, he is coming over right?" my mom questioned turning to me. And it was quiet both my mother's and Rhett's eyes stared into mine. It was either say no and get questioned for 4 minutes or say yes and just deal with having Brooks in my presence. I mean we fought before, and we always get through it, we'll just get through this.

"Of course," I said suppressing a smile.

"Well, I've got to get back to the kitchen and continue cooking, we're having steak! I'll leave you guys alone for a bit," my mom said, "It was a pleasure meeting you Rhett."

"I'm glad to have met you as well," he smiled back with a charm in his smile.

I turned to him, "Well you got my mom's vote."

"She seems nice, I can see where you get your charm and friendliness from," he laughed.

"I am amazing. So I can't wait to see where you get your charm from, but anyway, I kept you here for a long time. You should probably get home so you have enough time to change, take a shower since you smell, and whatever else you guys do," I said opening the door for him.

"Thank you, and what I do in the shower is confidential, but yeah I'll see you later Anne," Rhett smiled.

I waved as he drove off and smiled when I heard a voice, "So Rhett?"

It was my mother. Of course she's in my business, and I feel like I've already had this conversation earlier.

"Rhett," I nodded.
