Practice was over for me at least, the boys still had like another 15 minutes for cool down. I grabbed my bags once coach said we're done and have a great day and made my way to the football field. I just sat on the bleachers by the entrance and watched them run their laps.
But just as I was getting comfortable I realized I wanted to invite Catherine to dinner, so I grabbed my bags with plans to just throw them in the locker room so they wouldn't get stolen out here. I walked into the tennis room where I could hear Madison and Emma talking.
"Yeah I think I'm going to ask to hang out with him," Madison said.
"Do you think she'll get mad at you?" Emma asked.
"Oh yeah, that's the whole point. Jealousy right? Anyways I had those boys longer than her, someone needs to put her in her place," Madison responded.
"Remember Harker earlier?"
"Ugh, I do. Imagine he's trying to tell us to be nice, funny business because no one wants his secret getting out," Madison said with a smirk. I walked into the locker room and walked passed the two of them who had their hands covering their mouths, like that was going to help them. I dropped my stuff off, smiled at them, and headed to the volleyball room.
I met up with Catherine who I caught just in time because she was leaving, "Hey Catherine!"
"Hey Reece!" she smiled.
"I was wondering if you would want to have dinner at my place at 6:30? Crew, Brooks, Harker, Rhett, and Sawyer will be there too," I said.
"I'd love to, I'll see you there!" she said, then nodded to a car, "Well that's my dad, I'll see you later." I waved her goodbye and decided to text my mom about my dinner idea and who would've guessed it, my mom loved the idea, of course. She thought it was great I made friends, but I'm still not sold completely that Crew, Brooks, Rhett, Harker, and Sawyer genuinely enjoy my presence but I guess we'll see.
I walked back onto the field just in time because they just finished practice and I made my way over to them when I heard someone say "Isn't that your little slut?"
"Her, nah we're her babysitter. Do you really think I'd hang out with her on purpose?" Brooks laughed, "Yeah, I'm getting paid to deal with her. Just got to make her feel like she belongs."
Oh my gosh.
I immediately stopped mid-step and pivoted to the locker room and started walking fast. Even though it meant I'd have to deal with the face the wrath of the tennis team and the fake face of the boys. Honestly, why didn't I just keep my bags with me?
I ran into the building and rushed into the locker room to my locker and grabbed my bags, but right as I got it I heard a cough.
"I know what you heard, and your little Brooks invited me over to his house, are you jealous?" Madison smirked.
"I don't know what you're talking about Madison, I heard something about a secret and just walked in, and no, why would I be jealous? I'm not into him," I laughed really loud, obviously taking her aback.
"It must suck for you because I'm riding to his house in his car," She laughed, "Didn't anyone tell you? You don't win, no freshman does. I have them all tied up on my finger."
"Oh, I think I left my lipgloss in the passenger seat, be a dear and grab it for me," I said looking in the mirror and fixing my hair, "You know like how any good captain would."
"Aye, Mackenzie we're going," Brooks said looking into our locker room, "Reece, why are you here?"
"I dropped my bags off in here," I said walking towards him, "Oh and I have a ride going back home. That's why I was walking over to you, and come on Brooks the girl's name is Madison." I walked past him looking on my phone to see who could possibly give me a ride back, my mom no, maybe one of the boys that isn't Brooks.
