Daughter of Hades Chapter Two

"Don't do anything you'll regret, honey!" Father yelled to me. My mother walked to me and kissed my cheek then walked over to my dad, smiling down at him. Despite that some people think Hades forced Persephone to marry him, she actually did it willingly, despite everyone's wishes. She wasn't my real mother. My real mom was a mortal who didn't much care for me. I tried to visit her once and she merely called me devil's spawn.

"When do I ever do anything stupid?" I said, laughing. My father grinned. His green eyes glittered with pride. Despite the stress of having me in his life, he never regretted having me. The only thing he ever regretted was that my life was harder than the average demigod. I walked out, thinking. His dark Italian-like skin didn't have wrinkles because of his God blood, but his stress still showed in his eyes. It showed in my mother's too. Her tan skin hid the wrinkles that would show had she been a normal mortal and not a Greek Goddess.

I walked out and then sprinted to a run as I left the home. My parents had tried to make the Underworld look more cheery, but had done miserably. The death that filled the place was overwhelming. It had taken my mother years to get used to it, but since I had Hades' blood in my veins, it overwhelmed my mortal blood and made the sight and scent of death the normal for me. I got on the Elevator (as I called it, it was really some long Latin name that was unpronounceable). It rose me up to a home on the surface, which we pretended belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Kiya. At school, my name was Iridya Michelle Kiya. I ran to the bathroom in the mortal home and did my hair. It looked like my mom's. In the stories, no one ever knew the color of my mom's hair. Because it was red, blonde, brown, black, with a mix of almost white-blond in it. Mine was similar. I pulled half of my hair and pulled it up. I put the half of my hair and pulled it into a braid, leaving the dark components of my under hair to show while the light colors of my top hair. I quickly applied make-up to my pale face. My father was way too over-protective and didn't think I should wear make-up, that even with the curse; I was still a beautiful girl. Of course, that was him being a father and lying to make me feel better. Honestly, I knew I was not pretty in the slightest by demigod standards. And I had to at least attract the attention of guys or my mother and father would suffer. If I could just exclude them from the pain, and make all the other Gods and Goddesses suffer, even if I had to suffer too, then it would be worth it just to punish them for their treatment of my father. I ran out of the house to catch the bus that would take me to school. I fixed the outfit I wore. It showed off what skin was necessary for my male friends to like me in a way that sustained my duties has the Link. I stepped onto the bus carefully, making sure as to not trip. Being a Demigod didn't give me perfect balance. I found a seat next to one of the men that was the most help to my duties. He glanced at me and lust flowed off him. Even a normal human girl would recognize it considering the waves that were nearly so thick in the air you could cut through it with a knife.

I smiled at Roger. He smiled back and started making small talk. Roger wasn't normally a shy guy, despite the fact he looked like a total nerd with his glasses. Roger was actually a really sweet guy with no mean bone in his body. But he might have a few too many funny bones. He was the class clown. The boy was one of the best friends I could have. And one of the best friends a Link like me could have to help with her job. It was so tempting to date him, but that was not something that was morally right in my opinion. If I dated him, I may like him too much. A single kiss and he'd be drawn to me for the rest of his life, which would extend by about a decade per kiss. I don't know why, something about being a demigod Link made my romantic life a bit weird. A Demigod Link had the life span of a God or Goddess. The only way a Demigod Link can die is if he/she killed herself. The last Demigod Link had ended his life when his duties became too much. I think it had been one of Poseidon's Demigod children, which made his name a disgrace. Of course, if you asked Poseidon about it, he would claim Ciarnai (Kee-AR-Nay) was not his son, as he had disowned Ciarnai shortly before his death because he had married a mortal woman. Her name is Lilian, and she's slowly dying because Ciarnai was the only thing keeping her alive. Her marriage with Ciarnai had been in around 1849, and Ciarnai had taken his life in 1989. She was born in 1831 and her true age was beginning to show. It's 2010 and she's about to turn 179. She only had maybe thirty or forty years left on her lifespan. Lilian was what the Gods called LongLives. A LongLife was a mortal who lived longer than she should have. She was also one of my best friends. It was she who had warned me of the dangers that a mortal would face should I ever take one as my husband. I would be the only thing keeping him alive. Of course, my father was far more understanding and wished I could take a loving husband, but knows I do not want to hold someone's life in my hands. Link's had slight telepathy powers, so I was able to know that Roger had a huge crush on me, but was too shy to ask me out.

"So, how was your weekend Iry?" Roger asked.

"Oh, just the normal boring stuff. All I did was read and write the entire time." I lied. In actuality, it was half true. I did a lot of reading in the Library of Hades. It wasn't mentioned in the natural mythology. The Library of Hades had everything ever published in any part of the world. I was looking through them in the hopes that I would find something that would help me torture the Gods without torturing my parents. Zeus and the others were heartless, often toying with mortals for their own amusements, but everyone thought it was Hades who tormented them so Hades could get a few more souls. My father hated getting new souls, because their torture was a set of mind. If they'd believed in life that Hades wouldn't hurt them, then they'd be living (if that's the right word) in peaceful serenity.

"Fun. So, date any guys, sweet thang?" Roger turned on his charm and I giggled.

"As always, no dates. My...family...is really strict on their no dating rule." I said, laughing. Technically, Zeus and Poseidon were my uncles, but I didn't consider them as such.

"Must get so boring not being able to ever do anything. Of course, I had a date with another smokin' one. This one was the hottest girl I'd ever dated. Of course, there is an even prettier girl I'd like to date." Roger said, looking at me with puppy dog eyes. Awwww, it was so hard to say no to him even when he was laying it on so thick. Any normal girl would jump at the chance to date a man as hot as Roger. Behind his glasses, he had two different color eyes, which I found so much hotter. Some girls thought it was weird, with him having one light blue eye and one dark blue eye with black hair.

The school bus finally arrived at school. Roger was the first stop and I was the second, my supposed house being just two streets behind his, so we had to sit through more than twenty long stops. The stops were far spread, considering we lived in rural Alabama. It wasn't the most exciting place, but it was the easiest place to hide. I didn't know why we were hiding; it wasn't like anybody believed in Greek Gods and Goddesses anymore. In Alabama, most of the people were Christian, and I wasn't going to break their beliefs in half. They'd call my crazy if I even so much as said I didn't believe in their God, so I wasn't going to say anything about even believing in the Greeks. That's one of the few reasons Rog and I got along so well, because my religion was supposedly Agnostic, as in knew something was up there but wasn't entirely sure as to what. Rog was just Atheist, which made him a lot easier to talk to. Nine out of ten people in this town are obsessed with their Christianity, and love to shove it down other people's throats.

I threw my backpack over one of my shoulders and got off the bus, with a friendly "see ya this afternoon!" from the bus driver. I walked into Carmlas High School, walking to my locker and put in my combination while Rog talked my ear off. I placed my hand over his mouth.

"I love you, Rog, but shut the heck up!" I said, smiling, taking my hand off his mouth.

"Aww, I knew you loved me, Iry! Oh, Iry, marry me!" Rog pretended to dance like a school girl, drawing attention to himself. The man had no self-conscious issues at all, while I liked to hide myself, considering I was still trying to raise myself to the standard of Demigod women, who were always so beautiful when I wasn't.

"Iry, are you downing yourself again?" Rog asked, snapping his fingers in front of my face as he opened his locker.

"What do ya mean, Rog?" I asked, grabbing my language books. My school offered sophomores five electives along with our four required classes. I glanced at the clock. Five minutes to eight o'clock. I grabbed Rog's hand and hurried off to our first class, Italian and started counting the time till this danged School for the Advanced let out at 4:10.

So, did ya like it? It took me two days to write four and a half pages >.>

I had a sudden inspiration for this story, and this is going to become one of my primary stories along with Unknown Presences 2, The Witches and the Vampires, and Eternaly. PLEASE leave a comment telling me what you think. Of course, if it's not nice, then make it nice enough that it won't make me cry XD.
