I missed you when you went off to war to defend our country
leaving all you ever known to go out and save it
I held you in my arms for so long
and wished you could stay there for all eternity
I had faith that you would come back and you did
but it was not the same
your eyes had a new darkness in them
of the haunting memories of war
I calmed you when you were scared
and helped you sleep at night
I knew you would come back for me
I was glad to have you back
