AMIR TURNER.

TIME. An irrelevant figment of your imagination. It doesn't exist. An illusion put here to force us into thinking that we have to do things by a certain point or we'll be recognized as failures. You go a day without feeling a thing at all then you go a day feeling everything. Nothing makes sense and then suddenly everything makes sense. One moment you're crying your eyes out with pain behind your tears and the next you're laughing until you're doubled over. Then we sometimes give everything just to be left with nothing.

Amir woke up the next morning in bed but Hue wasn't there with her. She had one of the worst headaches and her knuckles hurt like a bitch. She reached across and grabbed her phone off the nightstand to check the time. 7:42am. She tossed the covers off of her and went to do her daily hygiene. When she was done she went to find Hue. "Herbert?" She called out but received no response.

As she was about to call him again, she heard the front door open up. She peeked her head around the corner and Hue walked through the door. "You free tonight?... alright ima see what my shawty doing then I'll let you know.... one."

Amir folded her arms across her chest and looked at him. He kissed her forehead. "Good morning. You feel better? You beat my ass last night."

"And I'll beat it again. Who was that?"

"When you started questioning me 'bout phone calls?" Amir nodded her head slowly before going to fix her some cereal. She started aggressively fixing herself some cereal. Hue sat on a bar stool and laughed. "You being for real right now?"

She ignored him and finished fixing her cereal then went into the back room to watch TV. She just wanted him to leave her alone. He was right. They never questioned each other but if she asked one, what was so hard about just answering it? That's that sneaky shit.

"I'm bout to go out."

She nodded while still looking at the TV. "You don't care?"

"Herbert you could literally go to hell with Satan right now and I wouldn't care." Amir spat out before she had time to stop herself. It was up there now so she didn't even apologize.

"What time did you leave yesterday?" She sat her cereal on the table next to her and sat up in her seat.

"Why? Amir what you on right now? It's 8 in the morning dawg. Now you wanna be my girl but just a minute ago you ain't have time for that shit." Amir got up out her seat and Hue knew she was in her mode now. "Dawg, watch out." He said stepping back some.

"You better go where you going Hue before I beat your ass for real." And Amir was serious. She had some anger in her and she didn't mind going to the middle of the street at the point. She picked up her bowl of cereal and left.

She went upstairs and heard the door downstairs slam close. She finished her cereal, washed dishes then went to get dressed. She could never sit around with her mind wondering on what a nigga doing. That turn up the mental patient in her. Her phone started to ring and she seen it was her friend, Ouni.

"What, bitch?" She answered.

"Ooo. What did Herby do now?" She asked before laughing.

"Shut up. What you doing? I'm coming to get you. We going where the niggas at." Amir grabbed her keys off the nightstand and sprayed on that shit that she knew would work every time.

"I really don't feel like having Hue call me yo hoe ass friend." Amir busted out laughing because she could just hear him now.

"Bitch be ready. I'm on my way." She hung up and was on her way. She hurried to turn on her air conditioning because the sun was being so damn rude. "It's hotter than the devil's ass dawg." She mumbled while pulling out of her driveway.

She texted Ouni that she was outside and waited for her. Her phone started ringing. She looked down but ignored it. Then her phone dinged twice.

Herbert: you know we don't go mad at each other answer yo fucking phone
Herbert: that's a bet. I'll see you when yo location still

Amir rolled her eyes and connected her phone to the Bluetooth ass Ouni came outside in some lil' ass coochie cutters. "Damn bitch. I ain't know we was on that timing."

"I heard we going where the what? Where The Who? Where the niggas reside, where the niggas reside, where the niggas reside, where the niggas reside." Amir laughed. It was the most genuine laughed that she's had in a while.

"You a damn idiot. You look the fuck gooood." Amir went to Snapchat so that she could take a video. "A hoe could never! Do yo' dance bitch, do yo' dance bitch." She said hyping her up. They both laughed once Amir stopped recording. She scrolled on her phone and went to their song.

"Bend it over, bust it wide. I got a bitch scared to come outside."

"Come out, ho!" Amir hollered.

"I ain't Bonnie."

"Fuck Clyde."

"You want a rich bitch? Swallow your pride. This Audemar, your nigga bought it." Ouni said holding up her AP to the camera.

"And from a side bitch, he gettin' extorted." Amir said holding up her custom Rolex that Hue bought her for her birthday last year. Being around Ouni always made her forget whatever she was mad about. She had no idea why they didn't spend more time together.

"Herby gon' beat yo ass once I post this video." Amir waved her off and continued driving to Main Street. Definitely where the niggas reside.

HERBERT "HUE" WRIGHT.

Halfway across the town, Hue was taking his seventh blunt to the face. After receiving news that two more of his homeboys died all he wanted to do was be laid up with Amir. His mind was fucked up and he was thinking about doing the craziest shit.

This was new to him. He never experienced a time when Amir wasn't there for him. That shit was hurting him. He tried calling her again but she didn't answer. He checked her location and seen that she was out. He didn't text her or call her again.

"Herbert?" He heard a soft voice call beside him. He looked up from his phone and stared into her big brown eyes. "You're crying. What's wrong my love?"

He laid his head on his mama chest and cried. Every tear that he ever held inside, the pain that was inside, the anger, he cried. She didn't say anything. She just wrapped her arms around him and let him cry. "I'm fucked up, ma. I'm so fucked up." He would've never cursed in front of his mama. No matter what state of mind he was in.

But he didn't know how to deal with his emotions at this point. He had a broken heart inside. A broken spirit and his healer was no where to be found.

Eyes bloodshot red from the tears and the weed. He wiped his face on the arm of his hoodie while his mom brung him a blanket. She wrapped it around him. No matter how old he got, everyone knew that he'd always be a mamas boy. He was her only child and a boy at that? It was set in stone.

"I'll go make some tea and papis." She kissed his forehead. He laid down on the couch with his face to the ceiling. God make this shit stop hurting so bad, he thought to himself.

He was tired of being in pain all the time. Always carrying a casket and a heavy heart. His phone started ringing and he hopped up hoping that it was Amir but it wasn't. It was an unknown number. He answered it.

"Wassup?" He managed to get out.

"Yo where you at?" His homeboy, Vince's voice came through from the other line and he knew what type of timing it was.

"The city. What time?"

"Ima slide through western and scoop you. Just be there demon." Then the phone went dead. Hue sat up and wiped his face again. It was lights out for whoever.
