Engrish - Bad translation of Japanese. A bad or poor grasp of English grammar. Comes from the distinct Ls and Rs.

Enjoy.

For Mafuyu she was going to face her biggest challenge right about now. As much as you and your friends would dream these fantasies of going to America to play baseball under these outrageous contracts like Godzilla Matsui, Park, Wang, and other Asian athletes that have flown over, English was something none of you thought of. Mainly because they spoke through translators. Though in today's game, many players were learning to speak somewhat in English. Some barely able to get by, but they had knowledge and understanding of basics. The yes, no, greetings, thank yous, and more.

"Okay. Let's start a few words. Pupil." The word meaning the person and not the eyeball.

"Apprentice?" You guessed.

"I would say student is a better term for it. Not bad." She nodded. "Above?"

"Clouds?"

"Not quite. Higher level or overlooking. I would have taken either. How about coast?"

"Coast." You thought to yourself. "The end?"

She shook her head. "Beach. Or the ending of land."

"Damn. Alright. Next." So far mediocre. Got to pick it up.

"Widely." The thing you noticed is some people when they teach play charades as well. She looked firmly at you. Didn't open her arms, point, or make any gestures. Just like a written exam, there is no hints. You fill in the blank and call it a day.

"Big area? Large range? Right?"

She nodded. "Answer with more confidence. Yes."

"Climate."

"Hot or cold?"

"No. Weather conditions. It could be hot and rainy outside. As well as it can be cold and be no snow." She pulled out some flashcards that she made with some terms on it. What made it interesting was there was nothing on the back for you to look at. Just the way it should be. "Next word is imagine." That was a tough one. How would someone describe the term?

"Imagine. Hmmm..." You try to close your eyes. "Wait, images?"

"Mental imaging. So far you're right. This is your weakness. But I've seen worse. This is why I am here (LN)." Onto the next card. "Tower."

"A building."

"Not quite. I will allow you to think that again. Which is something I don't do." She looked at you try to pick your brain. "Anything?"

"A tall building?" You shake your head.

"Tall and narrow building."

"Ugh!" You grit your teeth.

Onto the next card. "Apart."

"Distance."

"You are half right."

"Separated distance?"

She smirked. "Correct." That smirk seemed evil. "Tie."

"No clue..." You said firmly.

"I would have taken attach or fasten." Flipped the card. "Loose."

"Not tight?"

"Okay. Good. Enhance."

"Large?"

"Increase. It isn't size." She put the cards down for a moment. "Language is much tougher because you have to either know it or you don't. Other subjects you can read it. Math you can follow the formula. Language is simply knowing terms which makes it tougher."

"Isn't English the hardest second language to learn too?"

"That it is. But at the same time imagine buying an American product and having to read it in English. Things as a warning label. Very important."

"Don't they have it in other languages like Spanish on there?"

"Not all." She gave a valid point.

"Hmmm. Yeah, I can see that. Next?"

"Ready? Need a sip of water? A breath?"

"Fine. Please go on." You assured her.

"Be present."

"Obey."

"Carry out."

"Lemon."

"Fan fiction."

"NO! Nani!?"

You blushed. "I am so sorry..."

"I was hoping yellow acidic fruit." She cleared her throat. "Anyways, for the love of decency, we shall continue."

"Right... Please." You bow.

"Rise."

"Move up."

"Bury."

"Hide underground."

"Ascend."

"Fall."

Caught in a wrong answer again. "Ascend is up and Descend is down. It definition, go up and move down. D is down. Remember that." She flipped her next card.

"Degree."

"Measurement."

"Hmmm. Good. Outside a few terms you are okay. But remember, with a little work you can go from a C to an A. Not sure why you wouldn't want to try it. Improving is always better regardless of the cost."

That seemed to have meaning behind it. Let's see if you can find out. "Cost Sensei?"

"Level with me. If you can't control a pitch do you use it regularly?" She asked.

"No. Only use my main three. Nothing else. If I don't like I don't use it. What's next?"

"If you found out thirty minutes could bring you from a C to an A would you do it?"

"Even if it took double of that."

"I see." She nodded. "I have hope then. Is there another subject before we call it a day? I would need to grade some papers and ready for tomorrow. Need to do laundry and such."

"Maybe some equations and that will be it. Then finish up homework, shower, do some light cardio and that's it."

"I must say for someone who has been critically injured three times in his teenage years, you are in great shape. I had to be too when I was younger. Diet was important."

"It's different. Believe it or not, some pitchers my size are told by scouts are told to gain weight of all things. Some say pitchers if they gain twenty pounds of good weight it will help performance and stamina. Less taxing on the arm. Which, I can't comment about as you know." You chuckled.

"So positive. I commend you. A few equations and we will call it a day." She switched to an Algebra II book and turned to a section. "Let's get started."

"Sure thing." You know, she isn't all that bad. Intimidating and will always be, but when you adjust she isn't scary as she seems.
