Tahari

My heart pounded through my chest as I swallowed the large lump which was forming in my throat. I wasn't sure of what his reaction would be but I was more than sure that he would give me one. He sat there in silence carrying on his indignant look which was on nothing in particular. I'm assuming that he was still taking in what just came from my mouth.

He clenched his jaw before he began to speak."You must've forgot where you were and who you were talkin to.", he said as he turned his head and put his gaze on me.

My heart must've started racing faster than before. His stare was frightening me down to the core, if my hands weren't clasped together they would literally be shaking uncontrollably. "Let me make this shit clear because you really don't know when to hold ya tongue, don't bring up no shit that don't got nothin to do with you, period. And that lil smart shit you said to a nigga, don't forget who you're talkin to again Little Girl.", he said in a harsh yet calm manner as he sized me up.

His every word only caused me to flinch...

I nodded slowly. "Okay.", I said softly as I pulled my eyes away from his intimidating gaze.

"I apologize for what I said, before hand, I only brought it all up because when I saw the news last night, I just wanted to know that you were alright, if it did have something to do with you, that's all. No disrespect intended.", I spoke sincerely as I gazed down at the hardwood floor.

He gazed at me for a brief second before speaking. "You ain't gotta worry about me shawty.", he said calmly as he rested his back against the couch.

I let out a sigh of relief, I was seriously petrified because I'm aware of what this man was capable of. "You can stop bein scared, I ain't gone do shit to you.", he said reassuring me.

I bit my lip before making a response."I really didn't know what to expect.", I said softly fighting the urge to gaze his way.

"What's ya name again?", he queried.

"Tahari.", I quickly responded.

He nodded. "Aight Tahari, well to kick this shit off, you might want to look at me when I'm talkin to you, just a way of respect.", he said calmly.

I gazed at him and with that my heart began racing once again, although he was calm, I wasn't prepared with what could possibly come out of his mouth. "You heard about me and whatever you think you know about me is all based on some ruthless shit because niggas know I don't fuck around lady, now when you were sittin around me and my yungin, hearin the lil shit you heard yesterday, did you think that I wanted you to speak on it? I sent you in there with ya homegirl cause that conversation wasn't for you. I don't know you which mean we were never rockin and bringin that shit up to a nigga like me had me feelin like you wanted to get some shit outta me so you could go back and tell a mothafucka but after ya lil apology about you wantin to know that I was aight, I just thought that I'll give you the benefit of doubt, so you good, ya heard me.", he said holding his gaze.

I nodded. "I understand.", I said as I took my gaze away from him. He still had this vibe that frightens me deeply and I'll just not talk so much. I was out of line for bringing up him and Devin's conversation and carrying on along with the fact that I got smart with him. I didn't mean it, well I did mean it but I didn't mean to blurt it out.

That's word vomit for you...

"Let me ask ya somethin.", he said grabbing my attention. "Why do you care if a nigga was cool or not?", he queried.

I shrugged before speaking. "Well, after hearing what I heard when y'all were conversing followed by the late night news, I don't know, I'd just hate to hear the worst happen to someone that I know a little.", I said as I fiddled with my fingers nervously.
