Tahari

11:35 pm...

With the faint sounds of the usual police sirens sounding throughout downtown, I finished up a bit of studying. I caught myself doing that more than usual when I didn't really have anything else to do. I reached for my duffle bag which was resting upon the floor. I put my chemistry book inside along with my composition book. I stood to my feet and walked along the hall. As I walked the dark hallway I could see that the bathroom light was on. I stood in the doorway to see August lining up his hair. I leaned my head against the door frame as I gazed at him. Never taking his attention away from what he was doing he spoke. "What's up lady?", he queried.

"Just admiring you, that's all", I said softly to him.

A soft smile crept upon his face. "Is that right?", he queried.

"Yes", I spoke softly.

He chuckled a bit before turning the clippers off and placing them on the sink. He gazed in the mirror closely to check at how crisp he done his lining. He then opened the medicine cabinet and got the alcohol out along with a cotton ball. He opened the alcohol and dabbed some along his lining with the cotton ball. He threw it away and gazed at me. "How's it lookin to you?", he queried.

"It looks good", I said in response.

"Aight, well do you feel like gettin the back together for me?", he queried.

I nodded. "Yes, of course", I said as I grabbed the crate that was by the bathtub and put it behind him. I grabbed the clippers and stepped onto the crate. I turned on the clippers and just like the first time, I grew nervous but I pushed that aside and proceeded with the lining. I was being as careful as I could. I held my breath and just did the best that I could do and after some time, I was done and it came out pretty good. I turned the clippers off and took a step off of the crate and with that, I grabbed the alcohol and a cotton ball and took a step back onto the crate and dabbed it along his lining. I got down, set the clippers in the sink and threw the cotton ball away as he grabbed his personal mirror and turned around to see the back in the bathroom mirror.

I clasped my hands together before speaking. "Is it alright?", I queried.

"Yeah lady, it look better than the front which is some bullshit", he said followed by a chuckle. "It's dope though. I got myself a personal barber, believe that.", he said before putting the mirror down. He gazed at me. "Thank you lady", he said.

I smiled. "You're welcome", I said softly.

I watched him in admiration as he cleaned up the area. "Can I put something in your hair to soften it up and make it smell good?", I queried as he continued.

"Somethin like what?", he queried.

"Some coconut oil, it's good for your hair, your skin and pretty much anything you can think of.", I said softly.

"Yeah, you can do that then", he said as he finished up in the bathroom. I followed him out of the bathroom and we made our way into the living room.

I took a seat on the couch before speaking. "That record player, do you ever use it?", I queried about the record player that set in the corner of the living room with a stack of records on it.

He shrugged."Every blue moon, you know, when I feel like vibin. I'll pour myself some wine, light a blunt and have a lil session.", he said as he walked over to it. "I got some Percy Sledge", he said followed by a slight chuckle. "When a man loves a woman", he said as he picked up a record. "Some Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Bobby Womack, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire. Shit, Lenny Williams, he sing one of my favorite songs.", he said which caused me to furrow my eyebrows.
