Waking up to a vibration from my pants pocket, I furrowed my eyebrows due to the awkward position I realized I was in, in my bed. I was somewhat hanging off and that caused my muscles to be sore for the moment. I slowly sat up and rested my back against the wall and with that I gazed over to see Tahari sleeping peacefully in a fetal position, the opposite way. She asked me to stay in here with her until she fell asleep but I ended up falling asleep right along with her. I dug into my pocket and grabbed my phone. I gazed at the screen before answering and sliding it to my ear. "Hello", I spoke into the phone with sleep weighing heavy on my tone.

"Good morning yung, you in the mood to head to church with me?", my mama queried.

It's too damn early for this shit...

"Not today, I'm tired. I ain't get much sleep", I said as I rubbed my heavy eyes.

"Mmm or is it that you just don't want to go?", she queried.

"That too", I answered as my eyes landed on Tahari once more as she shifted in her sleep. "What church you goin to anyway?", I questioned.

"Canal Street Baptist Church, same one Aiyanna service was held.", she went on.

"Yeah, I'm good on that", I said.

"I know you may not want to because your first time was going for that reason but overall it's a pretty nice church, the people there are so welcoming and friendly", she said casually.

"That's because they want them offerings", I said nonchalantly.

She chuckled. " Seriously, oh and last Saturday and yesterday they had these nice church picnics, had all kinds of food, I should've brought you along.", she said before I interrupted.

"Naw, I was good doin what I was doin yesterday and last Saturday", I said nonchalantly.

"Cut me off again", she said with a such a firm tone.

I chuckled. "I'm sorry mama, gone head and tell me about the picnic", I said uninterested.

"I met this sweet woman name Lannette and yung when I tell you that she made some good peach cobbler, that would be an understatement.", she said casually.

"If it ain't yours then quite frankly, a nigga don't care.", I said bluntly.

"Watch your mouth boy, I don't even tolerate that word, as outspoken and blunt as you are, remember who I am. I'm not your friend", she said snidely.

"I hear ya mama", I said.

"Well, let me get off this phone so I can finish getting ready for service.", she said.

"Hold on, are there any bills you need paid?" I questioned as it just crossed my mind.

"No yung, I got everything taken care of over here", she said.

"Okay, I'll be over there later on to shoot the breeze with ya for a while, you cookin?", I questioned.

"Depending on how I'm feeling after service. Leave it up to you to stir up more conversation after I tell you that I got to finish getting ready for church. I'll see you in a bit, hear.", she said.

"I'll see ya in a bit mama", I said.

"Alright", she said and with that I ended the call.

I set the phone down on the bed and reached over and covered Tahari with the fleece blanket. I got out of bed and stretched a much needed stretch before walking over to the window. Bending the blinds back, I gazed out of the window, only to see the usual. The elderly couple who lived next door, would get up early every morning and walk their miniature dog. This neighborhood was unfrequent, very quiet due to the elderly folks occupying this street. I let go of the blinds and walked out of the bedroom. Closing the door, I made my way to the bathroom and closed the door. I lifted the toilet seat and since my sweats were slightly saggin, with little to no effort I whipped my shit out, aimed it and took a piss. Afterwards, I shook with my right hand flushed with my left and proceeded to wash my hands before reaching into the medicine cabinet for my toothbrush and toothpaste. I gazed in the mirror as I brushed my teeth. Once I finished I examined my pearly white teeth in satisfaction.
