Everyone is gathered in the office. It's silent.

Finally, Connix speaks up. "Our distress signal's been received at multiple points, but no response."

Commander D'Acy stands over the young girls shoulder. "They've heard us, but no one's coming." The commander says, glancing at mom.

Mom sighs, and grips her cane. She lowers herself onto a box. "We fought till the end. But the galaxy...has lost all its hope. The spark is out." She says.

I walk over to her, pulling myself away from Poe. I sit next to my mother and wrap an arm around her shoulders. Surprisingly, she leans into me.

We sit like that for a second before mom glances up. She's sensed something. I follow her line of sight.

There's a dark figure standing in an open doorway. At that second, the cannon outside lets out a blast and the door to the base cracks at the bottom. There's a melted hole now, wide enough for three people to walk through at the same time.

Some Resistance members let out a cry, but I don't. My eyes are focused on the figure. They step further into the office and stop right in front of me and my mom.

The figure pulls down his hood and smiles down at the two of us.

"Uncle Luke." I whisper. He kneels down.

Mom touches his sounder briefly. "Luke. I know what you're gonna say. I changed my hair." Mom says, with a flourish to the top of her head.

Uncle Luke lets out a small chuckle. "It's nice that way. Leia, Wren, I'm sorry."

"I know. I know you are. I'm just glad you're here at the end." Mom says. She places a hand on Uncle Luke's cheek.

"I came to face him, Leia. And I can't save him." Luke says. I know they're both talking about Ben. I haven't even given a thought about him. He's probably here, at this battle right now.

Mom sighs. "I held out hope for so long, but I know my son is gone."

Uncle Luke stands up. "No one's ever really gone." He says. He leans down and kisses Mom on the forehead. He reaches down and squeezes my hand before turning away. He walks towards the exit to the office.

3PO stands by the doorway. "Master Luke." He says sadly. My uncle offers him a wink.

Then, Luke walks towards the exit of the base and steps through the melted door. The sun surrounds him and he disappears.
