When the moon was full like it was on this night, Daya always longed to go for a run with others of the pack. She loved the feel of wet grass and mud as her wolf sprinted through the meadows and marshes that were deep in the forest.
She knew she would join them next run, but tonight she chose to stay in knowing that her lunar cycle would be approaching any day now. She could feel it and didn't want to risk her scent distracting the other male wolves, especially the alphas.
Once every four months she would go through a cycle and kept herself locked up in her apartment with Netflix and snacks. Tonight was the start of all that for her as she settled in on her couch in a white plush comfy robe with a bowl of popcorn.
She aimlessly clicked her remote through the different tv shows and movies, trying to find something that caught her attention. So many choices always left her feeling more indecisive.
The knock on her front door startled her. She was not expecting company for at least a week besides her brother, but Daya knew he had left an hour ago to go on the pack run.
Letting out a low growl when the knocking continued, Daya pushed herself up off the couch and made her way across the room to the front door. "Who is it?" She questioned while looking through the peep hole.
"It's me, Ren. Lucas forgot his phone do you mind if I grab it for him?"
Pausing for just a moment, Daya almost carelessly pulled the door open. Ren was her brothers best friend. She had grown up with him and formed her own close friendship with him. In any other circumstance she would have not given the simple task of opening the door for him a second thought. Except she had to be cautious knowing she was so close to her cycle.
"I um, yeah. I'll get it just wait."
Pressing his ear to the door, Ren knit his brows together in confusion when she didn't just open the door for him. "Wait so I can't come in?" This was baffling to him being as Daya never hesitated to let him in. Could she possibly be entertaining another male? The thought definitely made Ren clench his jaw. Daya had been like a sister to him, but now that she had grown into a beautiful 20 year old woman, he couldn't help but see her in a different light.
Frustrated by the disappointment in Ren's voice Daya let out a sigh before deciding to throw caution to the wind. It was just Ren and she hadn't even started her cycle yet.He wouldn't be there long anyway. Placing her hand on the knob she willingly pulled the door open and greeted him with sheepish smile.
"No come in. Sorry I was just settling in for a binge fest and I'm in my robe so I didn't want to scare you with all this." She motion up and down the length of her body.
Ren took in her appearance but he didn't see anything wrong with it. Her long chocolate brown hair was pulled back in a loose French braid that rested on her right shoulder, her small delicate face was naturally beautiful without a hint of makeup, and her hazel colored eyes greeted him with a look of uncertainty. That was a first. Ren had never seen Daya seem uncertain in his presence. He could smell the anxiety begin to build on her and it caused him to hesitate before stepping over the threshold.
"Why are you being weird?" He asked while finally stepping fully into the apartment. "Lucas and I got like 3 miles out and realized he forgot it. I told him I'd come get it. I wanted to check on you since he mentioned you weren't feeling well." Shifting his blue eyes gaze around the room, Ren was once again put off by the obvious that Daya seemed to be in good health. It only raised his suspicions more on another male being in the picture.
"I'm not being weird." She defended quickly. Touching at her face a moment Daya felt a wave of warmth course through her body. Apparently her lunar cycle decided it wasn't going to wait a few days after all. She had to wonder if Ren triggered it to start early. His alpha presence and scent were not good at the moment.
Though Ren was her brothers friend, Daya still found him to be handsome and sweet. She loved his light brown wavy hair, bright blue eyes, and athletic build. He was sweet and had been protective of her for most of her life. He was much like her brother except now she was realizing how much he wasn't.
"Just wait here I'll get the phone." She stated, forcing herself to leave the room quickly and hurry down the short hallway to her brothers room. Pushing the door open she searched aimlessly for any sign of the phone that he'd claimed to have left behind.
Pulling back the comforter on the bed, she suddenly gasped at the feeling of two strong hands on her shoulders. Tensing immediately, Daya couldn't even get a word out as Ren gently pulled her against his body.
