Chapter 21 - Something Left Behind

"Not good at all, I miss her" I said and he nodded.

"Tell me something about her" he said and I smiled weakily.

"I don't think that is a good idea" I said and he pouted with his lower lip.

I sighed and closed the door behind us before I walked to the bed and sat down. I tapped on the bed beside me and he immediately came to me and sat down. I didn't know what to say so I stayed quiet for a while.

"What was she like?" Rick asked to try and start getting me to talk.

"She was the best mom and friend I've ever had. She always knew what to say and what to do to make me feel better when I was down. And I guess I was more attached to her than I realized" I said and he looked at me, listened to every word I said.

I could feel tears run down my cheeks and I bit my lip to try not to start sobbing.

"Every time I think of her I think of all the bad things I did, every little fight which I started, and then I think of every little thing we did together that was just perfect" my voice quivered.

Rick put his arm around me shoulders and pulled me closer. I leant my head on his shoulder and I felt his head rest on mine.

"I can't believe how easy it is to open up to you, I promised myself to never talk about any of this, convinced myself that the past was in the past, that nothing could change the danger I'm in, You have no idea how cold I've been the last years, and you have no idea how fast all that cold turned into warmth the second you stated you wouldn't leave me alone, that you cared for me" I only whispered now, not making much sense, probably the exhaustion talking. "And when you first told me you loved me, and I saw the love in your eyes, I could feel my heart heal again."

I felt him kissing the top of my head and I turned to look up at him.

"I always feel like a teenage girl around her first crush when I'm around you, how is that even possible?" I asked and he looked me in the eyes.

I drowned in his blue eyes and I started to think of the other night, my cheeks getting hot.

"I don't know, but I know the feeling because that's exactly how you make me feel like" he said and his eyes flickered down to my lips.

I smiled and he leaned down, taking my smile as an invitation. Our lips touched, moving slow together. The kiss might have been slow but it was full with love and passion. I felt his hands tangle in my long hair on my back and I shivered from his touch. Once we pulled away we kept our foreheads together.

"You know, last night" I started and blushed when I looked up at him and saw a wide smile take form on his lips. "I really enjoyed it, every bit of it" I said and I felt my cheeks get hotter.

"Me too" he said and I blushed even more.

"Did you know Alexis has called me mom two times now?" I barely breathed.

He looked at me shocked. I held my breath, I didn't know how he would react on this new information. I didn't know if he would be mad because after all I was not her mom or someone else's mom for that matter.

"She did?" he asked and the surprise in his voice was bigger than I had expected. "She's never acted like this with anyone else" he added and I could see a smile of wonder form his lips.

"So you don't mind? It's a good thing?" I asked, still not sure how he felt about it.

"A good thing? No, it's not a 'good' thing" he said and I felt my heart skip a beat. "It's a wonderful thing" he exclaimed and his face broke out in a huge grin.

I couldn't help but giggle nerously and smile at his happiness.

"This means we can become a family once all of this is over" he said excitedly and I looked at him with surprised wide eyes. "If you want to, of course" he said suddenly unsure after seeing the look on my face.

I thought about it. Wasn't this what I had been wishing for in the past few days? To become a family with Rick and Alexis? I had never thought it could be true though. But was that really what I wanted? I thought about it for a few seconds before I decided.

"There's nothing I would rather be than to be a part of your family" I said with a bright smile on my lips and his huge grin was back.

He leaned down and we kissed. It was more passionate this time and I had a few flashbacks to the last night. I liked the way his lips made mine swollen, how the static shot through us like a bullet making a whole through a paper. A knock on the door made us pull away and I touched my swollen lips and smiled before I turned to the door.

"Come in" Rick called out and the door opened.

"We'll need that ring again, Espo got something" Lanie said and I could see her smile when she looked at how close me and Rick sat.

"We'll be down in a second" Rick said and I blushed when I saw Lanie wink at me before closing the door again.

I turned to Rick and bit my lower lip.

"We better get going" he said and I nodded.

We raised but once we stood at the door Rick turned to me. He crashed his lips to mine and I couldn't help but let my hands travel up to his hair. His hand landed on hy hips, pulling me closer to him. I tangled my fingers in his hair and right before we went to far we pulled away. We both panting. I had my eyes closed and I smiled like an idiot before biting my lip again and letting go of Rick's hair. We fixed our hair a little before we walked down the stairs to the people downstairs.

"There you are, can I have a look at that ring again?" Esposito asked and I took out my ring.

I gently laid it in his hand and he looked at it again before he took out a scanner of some sort which I saw was connected to a computer. I raisied my right eyebrow and watched as he scanned around the ring.

"What are you doing?" Rick asked and I nodded.

I wanted to know the answer to that too. It looked ridiculous, and I had no idea what he might be looking for. It was just a ring, sure it meant a lot to me and my mother but it was still just a ring. Suddenly something beeped and we all turned towards the computer which were now going crazy uploading a bunch of files.

"What the...?" I started but stopped when I in my head heard my mom shout 'language'.

"It worked!" Esposito exclaimed with a surprised high pitched voice.

"What worked?" Ryan asked and tried to see what was going on on the computer.

I took a step closer and so did Rick. There. Right there was the evidence we needed. Who could've thought a ring could be the thing saving my life?
