The Empty Hearse: Chapter 9

"Y/n! Aren't those live tracks?" John asked, staring down at you. You nodded, too focused on searching the tunnel to respond. There wasn't anything you could see with your eyes without walking down the tunnels. You pictured Howards map, searching both sides. You remembered down to the left there would be a vent exit, that had to be the vantage point.

"Oh!" Sherlock gasped, as he ran to the end of the tunnel where you stood. He must've realized the same thing you did. He jumped down onto the tracks with you and you pointed your torch towards the left, to which he nodded.

"What?" John yelled, chasing after the two of you at the end of the tunnel, staying up on the platform as he shined his light down at the two of you.

"Coming?" You asked, gesturing him to come down to the rails. He looked at them uneasily and you sighed. "They're perfectly safe." You explained to him.

"As long as you avoid touching them." Sherlock added, as you both turned your backs to continue down the tracks.

"'Course, yeah! Avoid the rails. Great!" John muttered behind the two of you before you heard him jump down onto the tracks, following after the two of you.

"This way." Sherlock pointed down the tunnel as you walked side by side on either side of the rails, shining your torches as you tried to see ahead. So far there wasn't a sign of a train, but there would be soon.

"You sure?" John asked, looking up and down the rails nervously.

"Sure." Sherlock nodded, continuing on his way.

"Double sure." You added, hopefully to ease John, just in the slightest. You continued down the tunnel, walking around a small bend and the empty car that had gone missing was revealed in the beam of the three of yours flashlights. You turned to Sherlock with a small grin as you neared the car.

"Ah. Look at that." John nodded as he saw it too. You continued a bit further down the tunnel and saw the vent you'd seen in the maps open up on the ceiling ahead of you. Sherlock stopped, shining his flashlight into it. You followed his movements.

"John." Sherlock spoke, getting John's attention.

"Hmm?" John saw the two of you gazing up the vent and he too looked up at it, seeing what the two of you saw. "Demolition charges." He spoke, looking at multiple bombs secured to the inner side of the vent. You all turned grimly back to the carriage, making your way towards it a little slower this time. John took a big breath, obviously getting increasingly more nervous. You finally made it to the car where John bent down, shining his light under the car. Sherlock leaned to the right, checking down the sides, while you leaned to the left. You all looked at one another, shaking your heads. No sign of any other bombs yet.

Sherlock stepped up to the car, unlatching it's door handle. It clanged open, echoing around the tunnels as he creaked the door inwards. You hopped in after him, shining your flashlight around the eerily quiet compartment. It looked normal enough, but there had to be something wrong with it. John made his way all the way to the other side before turning back towards you and Sherlock with a shrug.

"It's empty. There's nothing." He shook his head as he continued to look around the compartment in confusion. You shined your light along one row of the seats, not yet seeing anything that seemed too off.

"Isn't there?" Sherlock questioned as he panned his torch towards the ceiling of the car. You turned following his torch up the wall as you saw a black and red wire twisting down towards the seats. John followed Sherlock's gaze, sighing as he looked at the wires. You made your way to Sherlock's side, pointing towards the seat cushion. With one hand Sherlock peeled up the cushion which was velcroed down.
