You can't stop me loving my self! O-o-ooh oh! O-o-oo woah woah!
I leaned over my bedside table and hit the off button on my alarm.
'I have really got to change it to beeping so I don't have to be woken up with pop radio.' I thought to myself as I sat up. I rubbed my eyes, yawning as I opened them slowly, adjusting to the sunlight. I looked around my room, the pile of clothes in the corner and my gaming remotes scattered around the room. I could hear the sound of the toaster pop from downstairs, which meant Jisoo was still home. I got up and went to the bathroom.
After I finished everything, I walked back to my room and opened my closet. I pulled out a white t-shirt and jeans. After getting dressed, unplugged my phone from the wall and headed downstairs. I walked into our small kitchen, where Jisoo sat on the counter, flipping through a magazine and eating a slice of dry toast.
"Good morning." She said, not looking up. "Aren't you suppose to be at school?" I asked, grabbing an apple off the counter and turning towards her.
"Aren't you?" She said, taking another bite of her toast. "Touché." I said, and walked out the door.
It was a nice spring morning, the grass still had dew from last night. I walked out and over to my car in the drive way. I opened the door and hopped in. I patted myself for my keys, which were in my pocket, before I started the engine and pulled out of the driveway.
I was halfway down the road when my phone rang, giving my a heart attack with the loud noise. I sighed and looked at the caller.
Tae
I answered the call and put it to my ear. "Hello." I said. "WHERE ARE YOU! YOU SAID YOU WOULD DRIVE ME THIS MORNING!" I pulled the phone away from my ear as Taehyung screeched at me. "What are you talking about?" I asked, putting the phone back to my ringing ear. "YOU FORGOT!?" Taehyung yelled, making me pull the phone away once again.
"Forgot what?" I said, not bothering to put the phone back to my ear. "God, Jungkook! Did you really forget! You promised you would drive me to the garage this morning!" He said, his voice less loud. "Oh shit!" I checked my phone.
7:28
"How far are you?" Tae asked, his voice was calmer now. "I'm about eight minutes away." I said, stepping on the gas slightly faster. "Six, if there are no red lights." Tae chuckled. "Don't get yourself killed, speed boy." "Don't play on it." I said, chuckling with him. "Well, I'll see you in a minute, Kook." Tae said. "See ya." I hung up on the call and put my phone down. The road seemed to stretch out in front of me as I flew down the road. I rolled down my window and let the breeze flow in, breathing in the scent of fresh air. Even though this was the family car and it was probably going only thirty to fourth miles per hour, I still liked to imagine that it was much, much faster.
A moment later, I arrived in front of Taehyung's house. He was sitting out of the curb, his backpack beside him as he scrolled through his phone. I leaned out the window slightly and Tae looked up, smiling when he saw me.
"Finally. Was starting to think you forgot me." He said as he stood up. I heard the sound of yelling coming from Taehyung's house and I peered over to see if I could see his parents. "I'd never forget you. They at it again?" I asked, looking up as he opened the door and slid in, setting his bag at his feet. "Yeah, Dad wasn't too happy about the financials and Mom spending money on cigarettes wasn't helping." He said, putting his phone in his pocket as the yelling got progressively louder. "Well, you know the rules. You ever wanna come over, my house is yours." I said, pulling away from the curb as Tae buckled up.
"I'll be fine. They will probably be done by the time I get back. Anyways, speed up. I promised Jennie I would be there by 7:30, which is definitely not happening considering it's already past that." I turned the steering wheel in the direction of where the garage was and slowed the car down a bit, the roads around this part of town have always been kind of rocky and flying down this road has always been a nightmare for anyone who likes there car. Taehyung groaned but didn't say anything. I pulled off the road which would take us downtown. "So, what are you and Jennie doing?" I asked, speeding back up now that we were off the road.
Jennie was the owner of J's Garage, which had opened up about three years. Taehyung had gotten a job there around the time it opened, just for a summer job. But by the time summer was over, Taehyung wanted to do full shifts there, even though he was still in school. He still is in school and often just skips a majority of the classes, except for mechanics class and math, which he says is a big help when it comes to working in the garage.
"The engine for the 1970 mustang just arrived this morning and she needs help installing it. A V-6 engine, fresh out of the box. And can you imagine when we get that baby up and running? It will be so nice. Nicer then most of the cars that the kids drive at our school." Taehyung said, his voice filled with excitement as he turned and faced me in his seat. "Ooo, that sounds nice. Leather seats?" I asked, glancing at him. "Yep. Brown leather." "You guys gonna paint it?" I turned onto the main road, I could already see the garage up ahead. "We were planning on making it a red or possible a black. But then we also found this nice sorta red and orange that would look hella fire on it." Taehyung said as we pulled into the parking lot. I turned the car off, taking the keys out. I opened my door and stepped out, Taehyung already walking through the garages open door where I could see Jennie talking to a woman.
Jennie was wearing her usual garage outfit, a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt with grease and oil stains. Her hands were black as she tried to wipe them off with a rag as she talked to the woman. I walked through the door and stopped, leaning against the garage doorframe as I watched.
"I paid for a full tire change. You only changed one!" The woman said, arms crossed as she practically sent daggers into Jennie with her glare. Jennie, unfazed, walked away from the woman to grab a hand wrench and walked back over. "Look, I already told you, you only asked for one when you came in. You had a flat tire and you paid for only one. I showed you the record of it and the price. If you have a problem, you can always buy to change the other three." She said, getting down on a skateboard sliding under a car, the sound of a wrench taking off bolts soon following after.
"I do have a problem and you're not listening! I want to speak to you're manager." The woman said, smirking as Jennie slide back out from under the car and staring the woman in the eye. "I am the manager." She slide back under. The woman looked taken aback for a moment before she scoffed and looked up at Taehyung, who had just come from the back and was now in uniform.
"You!" The woman said, pointing at Taehyung. "Me?" He said, pointing to himself, the look of slight worry settling on his face. "Yes, you! I need to speak to the manager." She said, spitting the words out. "Oh, well, she's kinda under a car right now. Um, Jennie?" Taehyung called and Jennie slide back out. "What." She said, pushing her hair up with the same hand that she held the wrench in. "This lady wants to talk to you." Taehyung said, pointing to the woman. Jennie looked up at the woman who looked down at her. "Hello again." Jennie said, as unfazed as she was when she first starting talking to the woman. The woman was clearly shocked to see that Jennie was in fact the manager. "Well, I'm too busy for this. Good day to both of you!" The woman said, her voice laced with venom. "Yeah, you too." Jennie said, sliding back under. The woman was beyond angry at how calm Jennie was through all of it. She almost seemed like she was going to say something else but change her mind and stormed out, getting in her car and driving away.
"Taehyung?" Jennie called from under the vehicle. "Yeah." Taehyung said, walking over.
"Can you go out back and uncover the mustang, bring it around front. Keys are on the counter." She said, sliding back out and getting up. "Sure." Taehyung said, running over to the counter to grab the keys before running out of the garage and around the corner. I walked in the garage fully and leaned against the car that Jennie was standing next to. "Hey Jennie." I said. She turned around and looked at me. "Oh hey Kook. You drive Tae here?" She asked walking back over to the shelf to put the wrench back. "Yeah. He's pretty excited to work on that car." I said. "Yeah me too. I need to fix the breaks to the new engine and then hook up the air conditioning today." She said. At that moment, the sound of the car pulling into the garage filled our ears and I turned around. The sound came to a halt as the car stopped and was turned off. Taehyung hopped out and popped the hood.
"Good bye old engine. You were not that great." Taehyung said, making me and Jennie chuckle. "Well, I'm gonna head out Tae. You better come to school today. Another missed day and you're gonna have detention." I said, walking out of the garage. "I'll be there in a bit, I promise!" Taehyung said, calling after me.
"You better!" I said. I hopped in my car and started the engine before backing out of the drive way.
