To my readers;

I have had this story in my mind for six years already, and due to the events of 2020, more specifically the quarantine, I have finally published. Never in my life has something of this magnitude affected the world. Never in my life did I think anything like this would happen.

Despite the grief and anxiety all of us share at this suffocating time, it would be a disservice to history to say it has not exposed the world's ideals. My government has been criticized, personal milestones have been undermined, lives have been lost, all seemingly for nothing.

The virus has weaponized our acts of affection. Staying at home and not visiting our relatives have become acts of love. And yet we see people who've spent their lives looking into their phones, finally look up at the stars. We've seen people on their balconies singing to each other, echoing the same sentiments, singing with hope amidst hopelessness.

I too am stuck inside my house, writing to you from the comfort of my kitchen table, wishing that this nightmare will finally end, and yet somehow thankful for the blessing of the written words that have escaped me.

It is my desire to remind you that we are not against a race, we are not against each other, and those infected are not to blame, but should be the subject of our prayers. This is not a Chinese virus- viruses don't have a nationality. Don't let this opportunity to show your humanity be an excuse for intolerance.

My heart goes out to all those at the front lines, all those families awaiting the return of their loved ones, and those families who sleep starving tonight. For those with uncertain futures, I pray tomorrow will be a good day. I wish I could offer more, but I can't. For now I'm simply a girl, typing on a laptop, hoping her words find you.

Thank you for reading, and I hope this story gives you a sense of comfort to pass the time. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I've enjoyed marinating it in my dreams... and I hope you like it.

Stay safe, live well.

Sincerely,

Ramayana Roxas
