CUT TO:

INT. LARS FARMHOUSE - BEDROOM

Obi-Wan cleaning Nelith face with a Napkin.

OWEN
How's she?

OBI-WAN
She's alright. She just passed out.

OWEN
She was strong and brave enough to handle herself against a sand people. I barely see something like that.

Anakin walks in with a tray. He put the tray on the table and pick the cup on it.

ANAKIN
Here. My mother made it. It's warm. It helps her to get concious again.

Obi-Wan takes it.

OBI-WAN
Good. Thanks.

CUT TO:

EXT. LARS FARMHOUSE - GARDEN - NIGHT

Shmi was outside looking at the sky. Obi-Wan walks in.

OBI-WAN
You should be proud of your son. He gives without any thought of reward.

SHMI
He knows nothing of greed. He has…

OBI-WAN
He has special powers.

SHMI
Yes…

OBI-WAN
He can see things before they happen. That’s why he appears to have such quick reflexes. It is a Jedi trait.

SHMI
He deserves better than a slave’s life.

OBI-WAN
The Force is unusually strong with him, that much is clear. Who was his father?

SHMI
(A beat)
... I don't know...

OBI-WAN
He left you?

SHMI
No... I mean... I wasn't with anyone when I had him. There was no father, that I know of… I carried him, I gave him birth… I can’t explain what happened.

Obi-Wan gets surprised.

SHMI
A long time ago, I married to a farmer who named Cliegg Lars. He was a good man. He raised against the tyranny of Jabba. But he killed him... The only thing he left for me was Owen.
(A beat, tears coming from her eyes)
Then, two years later, I got pregnant. It was so weird but it was true.

OBI-WAN
Impossible, isn't it?

Shmi nods her head.

SHMI
Can you help him?

OBI-WAN
I’m afraid not. Had he been born in the Republic, we would have identified him early, and he would have become Jedi, no doubt… he has the way. But it’s too late for him now, he’s too old.

CUT TO:

EXT. TATOOINE - JABBA'S GROUND - DAY

Camera shows the JABBBA'S PALACE from a distance.

INT. JABBA'S PALACE - THRONE ROOM

Obi-Wan and Anakin walks in the Palace.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
Ahhh, jedi. You have returned. Do you have the money?

OBI-WAN
No, but I have an offer. How about a bet?

Everyone on the palace were silent.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
What can you offer me?

OBI-WAN
A great many things. For example... I could put in a favor for the republic, and my ship will be the entry fee.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
Not bad… not bad… a Nubian.

OBI-WAN
It’s in good order, except for the parts we need.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
And what do you excpet to get from me as part of this bet?

OBI-WAN
A Podrace.

Everyone starts to laugh as the most Jabba.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
And who will you bet on winning such a race?

ANAKIN (in-Huttese)
I will do the race!

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
The boy tells me you want to sponser his race. You can’t afford parts. How can you do this? Not on Republic credits, I think. (he laughs)

Obi-Wan put his hand on Anakin's shoulder.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
The boy is good, no doubts there but what would the boy ride? He smashed up my Pod in the last race. It will take some time to fix it.

OBI-WAN
I have… acquired a Pod in a game of chance.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
I hope you didn’t kill anyone I know for it.
(laughs)
So, you supply the Pod and the entry fee; I supply the boy. We split the winnings fifty-fifty, I think.

OBI-WAN
Fifty-fifty!?! If it’s going to be fifty-fifty, I suggest you front the cash for the entry. If we win, you keep all the winnings, minus the cost of the parts I need… If we lose, you keep my ship.

Jabba thinks about this. ANAKIN tries not to be nervous.

OBI-WAN (Cont’d)
Either way, you win.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
Your friend is a foolish one, methinks.

Jabba laughs.

OBI-WAN
I’ll wager my new racing pod against… say… the boy and his mother.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
A Pod for slaves. I don’t think so… well, perhaps. Just one… the mother, maybe… the boy isn’t for sale.

OBI-WAN
The boy is small, he can’t be worth much.

Jabba shakes his head.

OBI-WAN (Cont’d)
For the fastest Pod ever built?!

Jabba shakes his head again.

OBI-WAN (Cont’d)
Both, or no bet.

Jabba sighs and punches the protocol droid behind him.

JABBA THE HUTT (in-Huttese)
You are so stubborn, Jedi! I agree the deal.

Obi-Wan and Anakin smiles at each other.
