Chapter 10- Maggie

The next morning when I woke up, I was smoldering. I remembered Zean when he suddenly snored and squeezed me tighter to him.

        "Maggie," he breathed.

"Hey Zean," I answered, poking him. His eyes blinked open.

        "Hey," he yawned.

"Hi," I responded, also yawning. He chuckled. Just then, a crash rang out through the tent, and maybe forest.

"Get away from her!" Somebody, maybe Maliki, yelled. Zean unzipped the sleeping bag and stood, yanking me up too. I groaned as I saw a wolf silhouette outside the tent. I heard a rip and there was a slash in the tent with a black wolf peering through. He growled, and Zean responded the same way. He grabbed my hand and I hid behind him, slightly peeking out. Grant focused on me, turning his head like he was confused. I blinked. I considered what he was doing and saw no reason he should be confused, though I saw plenty of reason I should be. I let out an involuntary shiver as the wind blew. I glanced down at my phone and noticed it was six-thirty in the morning. It was chilly at this time. The seconds ticked by awkwardly, then the mental combat going on was too much for me. I pulled, making Zean release my hand and walked, well more stomped, in between the shape-shifters.

"Stop," I commanded. I wanted Grant to just be a guy who liked me, not a guy with some wolfish connection to me so he would leave me alone, and know enough is enough. I turned my attention to the wolf.

"Go change," I ordered, pointing to the forest. He whined, but went. I groaned and turned to Zean.

"What makes me so valuable? Why are two people fixated on me?" I demanded, falling into his warm chest. He groaned, rolling his eyes.

"You don't see yourself clearly, honey." He told me. "You’re talented, beautiful, smart, and confident. I'm surprised the whole pack isn't fixated on you. Although that wouldn't turn out pretty," he assured me, kissing my forehead. I shrugged out of his hold as Grant came back, walking into the tent.

"Okay, can we be civilized people here? Civilized teenagers?" I asked a little critically towards Grant. He shrugged.

"I need an answer," I told him.

        "I will try," he promised.

"Zean?" I asked, saying the name with love.

"Anything for you," he agreed, rubbing it on thick. I had to hide a smile and a laugh.

"Okay," I agreed, taking a deep breath. There was another moment of awkward silence.

"We have to talk," I pushed.

"Okay," Zean answered. "Why the hell did you fixate on Maggie? Do you even know anything about her besides her name and appearance?"

"No. But I haven't gotten the chance to-" Grant started, but Zean cut him off.

"I don't care. I fixated on her after I knew her. The real her. Not just her beauty." I blushed, going tomato red.

"Well... I... Uhh..." Grant tried for a comeback. Zean folded his arms with a confident smile on his face.

        "I suggest you un-fixate."

"Impossible," Grant hissed. I growled quietly and low in my throat. I don't think either of them heard me, what with the staring contest going on.
