Chapter Twelve: The Blowout Bash (2)

Start from the beginning

"It's not that easy Daniel. It--"

"It can be if you at least tell me." I pried.

"No seriously, it isn't as simple as--"

"You have the information and the solution. If you don't want to take the rat for it then I will. I'll confront the problem--"

"No. No!" This time he shrieked. Banging the table to get my attention or to get his words through to me.

"That's it. That is enough! No more of this Daniel! You know what? I've already said way more than I should. You want my goddamn head hung over her mantle?!"

So it's a girl? Great job in keeping her gender a secret, Mike.

"I bet you do and you don't give two shits if it happens because now, you're only priority is Emily! Emily this! Emily that! Go cry me a freakin' river!"

Damn, he's really pissed off with me. "Ha, you wouldn't waste your precious tears on me. No, you'd rather hold them for the day when Emily breaks your heart or until it comes after you, threatening to end your family and everything they've worked for!" Michael inhaled a big breath of air, eyeing me with pure heartache and anger as I cracked under his prolong stare.

I know he was only saying stuff to back me off, but I want in on the secret. To infiltrate it and end it, but the conspirer doesn't need knowledge of that. They should count down there days before I step in and handle everything.

"Who is--What is it? And why would they threaten your family's business. Last time I remembered, your parent's law firm was nothing to play with." I added a small compliment, hoping that it would somehow help me discover the secrets he had kept hidden for who knows how long.

A long screeching sounded filled the air. It was Michael clawing the island counter with his nails. This girl really made his skin boil like hot water. "Yeah, well little miss power could claim ownership over my parents' jobs with just one click of a button. I refuse to be the reason for my parents getting fired from their positions." He badgered on. "Besides, it took me a whole year to find out her scheme. That's why you can't hear it from me. She'll know that I told you because let's face the truth, you don't catch onto things so quick."

I scoffed once hearing that, "I caught onto the fact that it is a girl and full of power. And if they're reigning with power then they must be very wealthy. Money controls everything." I told him.

"It also cost my friendship with Ems." Michael sulked. Reaching for a beer sticking out of the ice box. I'll let him have this one. He looked real down in the dumps and strangely, I felt as if I should...console him.

But instead all I did was supply him with a comforting pat on the shoulder and huffed. "So if you spoke of her plans to anyone, she would ruin your parents from the work force?"

"You see what I mean by you don't catch onto things." He teased, feigning a small smile. "You'll probably find out soon. The witch is within Emily's close friends. Don't trust anybody except Ems and Brady. I know you'll find it out. It won't be hard considering that you like her and she clearly finds you irresistible." Michael's remark brought the blood rushing to my cheekbones, uncontrollable sweats trickling down my forehead and improper choice of words. I murmured out something, but even I couldn't decode it!

Emily was a fragile topic for me. She was one person who I can't pin a finger on and state that she likes me because she doesn't show me any signs. We're just friends I guess.

Just...friends.

Michael grabbed my attention back. "She came to me the other day, laughing. She was surprised that I didn't do anything to stop her. What can I say? My family is more important than some girl's drama."
