With Lapis close behind, they approached the mini circle. Peridot jerked her hand away from Steven's grasp and tossed him a scowl. Garnet sat up from her felted chair and welcomed them, "I'm glad you came. Pearl just finished making the hot dogs." Pearl responded to Garnet's comment with a nod and pleased look. "Mhm, and now we are going to eat them!" She announced, but before Peridot could interject, Lapis said, "We'll pass on food. But thanks."

With that she looked at Peridot and gestured with her head to the shore with eagerness. Peridot rubbed her knuckles and gulped, even starting to sweat. There was something about the ocean that made her uneasy. Lapis strolled on ahead and Peridot followed despite her worries. They kept walking until the texture beneath her feet had turned cold and somewhat mushy, darker and muddier than normal sand. Peridot strained her eyes as she tried to make out what was on the other side, but all she could see was water. "Does it end?" She asked, looking at Lapis. Lapis was distant again, gazing out into the water with satisfaction, her skirt flowing as the breeze tugged at it. "Eventually. Come on, get a little closer." She urged. Peridot took a swift glance at the water that was close to her feet, and took a small step forward.

The water was cold, but felt no different than the smaller-than-average-lake they owned. Peridot smiled and shuffled her feet as the water lapped at her ankles. She had't even noticed that Lapis had stepped up beside her. "Let's go a little farther!" Lapis took a couple more steps, heading going as far up to her waist. Peridot tensed, twining her fingers together and pulling them to her chest. "I- uh.." she mumbled, hardly audible. ".. I'm scared."

Lapis looked at her for a moment then snorted and laughed again, only this time she had a different 'feeling'. "I-It's not funny!" Peridot shouted, trembling. Lapis stopped laughing and answered. "No no, it's not funny that your scared, it's funny that you're overthinking it." She stopped and took a moment to run her hand along the top of the water. "It's no different."

Peridot stared hard at her reflection in the water, putting her arms down to her sides and biting her lip. A shadow soon took over the mirrored image in the water as Lapis returned to Peridot's sides. Peridot looked up and was suddenly face to face with her. She had bent down to her height. "Let me help you." She offered both hands, palms up. Lapis had a soft, trusting look in her eyes, and the reassuring look she received from her gaze made her relax. Peridot placed her hands face down onto Lapis' hands, and their fingers curled together. Her tension eased as she made contact with the gentle blue gem, feeling comfortable with her touch as she braved this ocean. Lapis took a larger step back, forcing Peridot to take a large step forward. Their heads were bent close together, but Peridot was too focused on staring at the surface as the water began to creep up. Lapis took another large step, then another, then another.

Soon, Peridot was in the water up to her mid section and Lapis up to her waist again, her skirt flowering in the flowing water. Waves battered her stomach as they went by, soft but strong. Lapis still held her hands even after they stopped, and Peridot was thankful for that. As Peridot began to adjust to the water that caressed her body, Lapis took another unexpected step away.

Peridot, still trying to hold her hands, leaned forward as she stepped back, not moving her feet. Suddenly, she began to lose her balance. Lapis' hands left hers and the waves seemed fiercer than before. Stumbling in the mid-section deep water Peridot tottered on one foot while the other flailed in the water. She looked to Lapis, who was watching her with concern. Squeezing her eyes shut, Peridot lunged forward, and the water rushed up to her neck. She grabbed Lapis' arm before transferring to her waist, wrapping her arms tight around her stomach and burying her face into her chest. Lapis gasped at Peridot's sudden move, but was quick to swath her arms around the frightened green gem.

"I think that's enough of the ocean for now." She laughed, still hugging Peridot as she clung to her. Lifting Peridot out of the water, Lapis cradled Peridot in her arms; one arm behind her knees and the other along her shoulder blades. Peridot had her arms wrapped around Lapis' neck as she carried her back to shore. He face was hot with shame and embarrassment, but she felt safe in her arms. Once they reached the shore, Lapis set Peridot down on her feet. She was sopping wet, cold, and startled. Something soft landed over her shoulders, and she turned to see that Steven had caped a towel on her. "I saw what you guys did. Peridot, you were really brave!" Peridot blushed and looked at Lapis, who was hiding her mouth with one hand, looking away. Peridot felt her smile grow. "Yeah. I guess I was."
