A soft voice met the young kit's developing ears, causing her to arise in a startled motion. Then quickly, falling down once more. The white patch on her face glowing in the soft light. "Wake up." The kit mewled as something comforting stroked against her back in means of consoling her. "Don't fret little one, it's me. Your mother." The stroking stopped. She hesitated, opening her eyes. Strong light lined the silhouette of a cat that loomed over her. She gasped, mouth gaping open as she saw the cat's pure white face. She pressed herself further back into her little nest and squeaked. Her fur fluffed up as her mother picked her up by the scruff, the little horns on her head protruding. She wriggled violently in her mother's grasp. The cat that held her set her down out in the light of day, where she mewled at the sight of another kitten that was frolicking in a small patch of grass, batting around a dead leaf. Their eyes locked, the only movement happening after the dead leaf floated down onto the other kitten's face. She sneezed, a bit of smoke escaping her nose. She then mewed, galloping at the much larger kitten across from her. The brown and white kitten squeaked as the smaller kitten tumbled into her. "Easy little ones. Be gentle with one another."
Their mother seemed very tired. The two kits stopped mid tackle, the fiery kit's paws atop the white one's face, the two stared at their mother with eyes the size of full-moons. As a few moments passed, the two kittens squealed and galloped towards the she-cat. She giggled and stroked one of them with her tongue. "Oh! I haven't told you little ones your names." She placed a paw on the brown one's tiny belly as she flopped onto her back, "Your name shall be..." She glanced up as if thinking, tail curling around the two kits, "Draco! It suits that little sneeze of yours." Just as her mother had spoken of it, a twirl of smoke escaped her nose and she let out a little sneeze. The smaller, tabby kitten giggled quietly and held a paw over her snout, the force of this then caused her to tumble onto her back and squeak. The larger cat grinned and grabbed her by the ruff, righting her and purring her name, "Lycoris. It rolls off the tongue... your luxurious fur fits it well." She continued purring, only halting as she remembered, "My name is Brine." She licked the two's pelts clean. Draco's fur was much fluffier with occasional patches of untamable fur sticking out, with a soft brown covering her entire body except the mask of bone-white fur that extended down to her chest, with deep blue eyes. Lycoris's fur matched her name. Reddish-orange, like a Lycoris flower. Her fur gradually became lighter around her underbelly and the back of her neck. It stuck out in all directions and could not be tamed by simple grooming, just like her sister's. Her soft green eyes glimmered in the light while they fixed on Brine's.
The fluffy white cat purred as she continued to groom to two until she caught on to Lycoris's un-groom-able fur. Brine's deep orange eyes glowed, she was in deep thought. She grinned suddenly, "You know what? Let's go see your father." She picked up Lycoris, letting Draco follow behind at a steady pace. The three dipped into a large hole in a tree, where a black, orange, and brown mottled tom lie, resting quietly under the calm protection of the tree.
Brine giggled and placed Lycoris in the small opening in his stomach between his head and legs, and let Draco climb in after. She slid in with them, curling around him and sliding her tongue over the tom's neck to wake him up. He grunted and stretched out his paws, opening his mouth in a gaping yawn. his teeth glimmered in the light that fractured the shadows that he'd slept in.
The two kittens crawled over him and snuggled his neck. He purred and quietly held them between his paws, "Hello sweetheart." he called out to Brine as she slid in with him. The two cats pulled close to each other, purring in unison as the two kits beside them giggled while their paws hit each other in rough play. A pure silence filled the air until the black tom cuddled up with Brine broke the silence, "Brine, we should move soon. I scented fox last night while out hunting." Brine nodded, "Alright Barracuda." She nodded, grasping Draco in her jaws, "Now?" He nodded, grabbing the other kitten while he stood up and began to squeeze out of the hollow space beneath the tree's trunk.
