Chapter Twenty Seven

"We're here to meet the doppelgänger."

Elena immediately makes a move towards the three vampire strangers, "Thank you for coming."

Stefan grabs his girlfriend's arm again, Damon immediately stepping in front of the couple as he remarks, "There's nothing here for you."

Before any of vampires ready to collect the doppelgänger can react, one of them drops to the ground, his heart missing from his body.

Behind the fallen vampire stands Elijah, everyone's eyes widening. Trevor nearly speeds off in fear, but Rose anchors him to his spot. They share a glance, Rose nodding calmly, reminding Trevor of Bri's words.

'Don't be afraid. He won't hurt you.'

The group is still as they watch Elijah speed to the other two vampires, holding them against the wall as he glances from one to the other.

"Who are you?" Elijah questions, prompting one of the vampires to retort, "Who are you?"

"I'm Elijah," the Original responds plainly, recognition passing over the two vampires' faces.
"We were gonna bring her to you," one vampire explains, "For Klaus. She's the . I don't know how she exists, but she does. Klaus will want to see her."

Elijah glances between the two of them, shifting his gaze to the group inside the apartment for a second before returning it to the two vampires he holds against the wall and asking, "Does anyone else know that you're here?"

When the vampires shake their heads, Elijah smiles at them, "Well, then, you have been incredibly helpful."

The group inside the apartment are shocked as Elijah plunges each of his hands into a vampires chest, ripping their hearts out and dropping them to the floor.

Glancing back at the group, Elijah is slightly surprised to find them watching him with emotions varying from apprehension, interest, and shock; but no fear or worry.
"The banshee knew I'd come," Elijah states with raised eyebrows.

No one says anything, prompting the Original to nod before disappearing.

Trevor exhales, releasing a breath he didn't realise he was holding, Rose smiling at him and joking, "Were you doubting Bri's council?"

"She does go off voices in her head," Trevor smirks, repeating the blonde's joke from earlier that day.

"We should be heading back to Mystic Falls," Damon declares, "I don't want to leave Katherine in the house, alone, for too long."

Stefan agrees with an exaggerated nod, his girlfriend shaking her head with a smile. Rose and Trevor glance at each other, and then back at the Salvatore brothers, Rose stating, "We're going to be a little longer."

At Elena's inquisitive looks, Trevor explains, "We want to bury Slater."

"Take your time," Stefan states with a sad smile, Damon adding, "Maybe sort the human out before you leave."

Rose rolls her eyes at the raven haired vampire's statement, her and Trevor bidding the brothers and doppelgänger a temporary goodbye as the trio leave.

Damon, Stefan, and Elena head to Damon's car, ready to head home to Mystic Falls, while Rose compels Alice, and Trevor gets everything needed to bury Slater.

"Have you made any friends yet?" Bri asks the strawberry blonde not too long after Liz leaves.
Skylar shakes her head, "No, not yet. We've been in town for a couple weeks, but my dad didn't want me to start school in a new town with a broken arm, so he wouldn't bring me to school."
