It was a quiet, calm night and everything seemed to be fairly normal for a young teenage boy, who went by the name of Alex. He had been sleeping for about four hours now and had come to the stage of sleeping where he was in a serene state of repose. Just as the clock struck two in the morning, a large man in armour crashed through the bedroom window, extirpating the glass that had previously been snugly fit into the simple frame.
"What? Who? Wait, what in the world is going on?" Alex, who had been awakened by the crash and was now looking at the strange man standing in the middle of his small bedroom, exclaimed.
"Good morrow, my young friend, I've come to ask you a very important question." The man said, his tone regal and poised.
It was as if this man was straight out of a fairy tale. Between his fancy speech, his full set of armour, and the long sword that was held in his right hand, there was no doubt that he had come from a medieval castle.
"Now of course you will want more information about what I have come to inquire about, but first I must know if you are infallible or not." He said, looking down at the young boy, who was sitting on the edge of the bed.
"You need to know if I'm what?" Alex asked as he tried to rub the sleep out of his eyes.
The knight let out an exasperated sigh, but answered Alex anyway, "Infallible, it means that I can depend on you no matter what, no matter the circumstances. Are you dependable? Can I rely on you?"
Considering how tired he was, Alex did not feel like arguing with this man or trying to interrogate him, so he just nodded his head, hoping that his agreement would encourage the knight to explain what was going on.
"Excellent, then I shall give you the details!" He said, a smile spreading across his face as he began his explanation, "I have come here to ask you to embark on a quest with me to vanquish a truculent overlord that is threatening to destroy the beautiful kingdom that I call home. He is a virulent fellow that will stop at nothing to get his hands on the throne, which is why I need to create the perfect team. Now, Alexander-"
He was suddenly cut off by the teenager, "It's Alex, not Alexander. Wait, how do you know my name?"
"Please don't interrupt me with such minor details. Now as I was saying, our team has be comprised of myself, my apprentice, a deft swordsman, and you if you choose to join us. This will not be a facile quest by any means, but I believe that if we join forces we shall be an indomitable team!"
"So you want me, a sixteen year old, to join some quest to save an entire kingdom?" Alex asked, disbelief filling his voice.
"Yes, I thought that I had explicitly stated that," the man said, "but please do not be discouraged, this will be quite exciting."
He brandished his sword and swung it around, mimicking the sword fights and battles that they were sure to be a part of.
"Look, I don't think I can do this. I mean seriously, I'm not some officious kid that likes to go around messing with other people's business." Alex confessed, his tired expression returning to his face, "Besides I've got a very important dentist appointment tomorrow morning. Also did you really have to come at such an inopputune time? It's literally two in the freaking morning!"
The knight sighed defeatedly and began plodding toward the window as he said, "I see you will not be joining me. I guess I'll just have to find another brave adventurer to accompany us. Goodbye young Alexander, maybe one day we shall meet again."
He slipped out the window, leaving Alex once again all alone in the bedroom.
"It's Alex, not Alexander." The teenager mumbled as he got back into bed and drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
