Part 7 :- In 'Sickness' and In 'Health'

Start from the beginning

"What did you do, sweetheart?" Cong demands.

"I made sure that when he comes back, he will remember who he is. He will remember what he is capable of; he will remember his history. I made sure that he will have power over all wolves."

Cong gasps, "Xi Xi, you shouldn't have! You gave him your blood magic! Do you realize that you will not be able to be reborn with the same blood now?"

Xi Xi hugs her husband, "It doesn't matter anymore. I will not remember it in my next birth anyway."

Breaking the embrace, Xi Xi and Cong help Shen load the carriage. Meanwhile, YiJun settles Xian inside it.

Shen hugs his friends one last time before parting ways. While Cong and Xi Xi head for the waterfall cave, Shen, YiJun, and Xian leave for an unknown destination.

Present

Shen carries Wangji to his room and lays him down next to Xian. He intertwines their fingers and closes his eyes, "Please Xian, if you can hear me, help your Jun, he is in pain." Tears of desperation leave Shen's eyes.

He feels a warm sensation in his fingers where it's touching YiJun. He looks at their intertwined fingers.

"YiJun... " Shen whispers, when he sees a small smile on his nephew's lips. He doesn't know how, but he knows that Wangji is not in pain anymore. That maybe, just maybe, Wangji has fallen asleep.

He leaves their room and calls Zhau. The conversation they had had before Wangji had lost consciousness was bothering Shen, "Zhau, I need you to come over."

"And may I ask why my strong, sexy wolf wants me?" Shen can feel Zhau smile cockily over the phone. "I think the next few days are going to be very difficult for my family," Shen replies and proceeds to tell Zhau about his doubts.

As soon as Shen cuts the call, Zhau leaves for Lan mansion with all the evidence that he had collected that links Jin Gayo to the unnatural murders.

*Jiang Residence*

At the break of dawn, Xian opens his eyes and tries to sit up, but his body doesn't cooperate. He looks at his wrists only to find cuts on them; the blood on his wrists is dry.

With great difficulty, he picks up the phone and dials Wangji's number.

After two rings, Wangji picks up.

"Xian?" He answers in a surprised voice.

"Can you come over, please?" Xian requests in a weak voice.

"I will be right there," Wangji says without hesitation and cuts the call. He gets off the bed and looks at the man in his bed, "Don't worry, I will take care of him."

The night, after Shen had put him in bed, Wangji had dreamt about his past; his beautiful years with Xian. But dreams had ended with images of him touching and kissing Wei Xian. The dreams had felt connected: he had not felt guilty. It felt like his Xian was permitting him to do what his heart desired. So when he had woken up, Wangji had decided that he would try to get to know Wei Xian better and not push the young man away.

So when Xian had called, Wangji was a little surprised to see Xian's name blink on his phone. And when Xian had asked him to come over, he had agreed readily.

Wangji knocks on Jiang Cheng's door. A minute or so later, Yanli opens the door. She blinks: surprised and confused, and asks hesitantly, "Aren't you Xian's boss?"

Wangji nods and bows slightly. He doesn't understand why he was showing respect to someone centuries younger than him. But he knows that it's the right thing to do.
