"IN ORDER FOR YOU TO RESIST TEMPTATION," Sypha's silky voice echoed throughout the forest of Mirkwood, "You must first become one with your surroundings." Carmilla stood across from her—her razor sharp fangs protruding out of her mouth as she mentally fought against the urge to snatch the dead squirrel out of Hector's hands. "Close your eyes," Sypha told her. Carmilla did just that, shutting her eyes whilst taking a deep, shaky breath. "Listen. Focus on the present."

What she'd heard was the sound of birds fluttering their wings as they effortlessly soared through the sky, and bees buzzing as they sucked the nectar from the bountiful flowers. "Now, place your hand on the ground." Carmilla placed her palm against the cool surface of the soil. "Tell me what you feel." Her fingers buried themselves further into the dirt, taking in the scent of nature.

"I feel the soil," Carmilla spoke softly, "It's damp." Her fingertips brushed over pieces of grass, feeling the water droplets that were latched onto it. "The grass, it's wet."

"Dig deeper," Sypha ordered, "What's below the surface?" A small smile formed on Carmilla's lips as she felt something remarkable.

"Fire ants," she spoke, her smile widening as she chuckled with glee, "I can feel them moving. I can hear them."
