In this story, the mist was removed temporarily, but quickly restored. This means that mortals are safe and the safety barriers around the camps work, but all mortals now know about the godly side of the world and can see monsters and weapons. They also know the seven but not who they are, same with all the others that played a major part but not their names. This story covers how each demigod was revealed.
Also, I am British and this is set in America, so if I get something wrong I am terribly sorry. Just point it out to me and I will try not to make that mistake again.
