Chapter 3:
All the muscles in my body rose in temperature causing beads of sweat to form on my forehead. I could feel the metal gun pressed against my head as clear as day. I breathed in heavily, ignoring my burning cheek and squeezed my eyes shut to steady my racing heart.
I can't believe I forgot about this guy, no wonder he didn't enter the penthouse with me and axel, he was the lookout. (I would mentally swear at myself for being an idiot but I bloody couldn't remember every single stranger I encountered tonight)
The man behind me leaned in closer, brushing his lip against my ear. Still keeping a firm grip on his gun, he whispered "Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. It's Adam, fifth member of the group". His breath on my ear sent shivers down my spine. "I should also clarify I'm an undercover detective working for the police force, so you can imagine I'm pretty good when it comes to handling guns" he vouched, trying to get inside my head.
He was a member of the police force? What! Then why is he working for these guys... He's on the WRONG side!
Shit, this can't be happening. This must be the reason they got away with the auctions, they had a person claiming to address law and justice in their frikin' gang, a person who can cover up their transgressions.
My attention then snapped to my cell phone, the operator was still on the other end. If I confessed, this 'mafia group' would find a way to cover it up and who knows what they would do to me afterwards.
"Cut the line and drop the phone" Jaden orders with an annoyed growl.
My attention doesn't leave my phone but out of fear my body yields to Jaden's orders. My clammy hands immediately slid over the power button... I ran out of ideas, what other options where there but to obey...
Wait! If they were going through all this trouble to keep me then they would be fools to shoot me? Before the phone could fall out of my grip, I squeezed tightly, trapping it within my hands. I stood straight not letting terror overwhelm me and projected my voice "Shoot".
At first the two men don't acknowledge what I was saying. I didn't even acknowledge what I said. Where my sudden bravery came from and what I was even planning to do; only god knew. I guess I'll take a leap of faith and let instinct takeover. All I knew was that I was not wasting my last chance of escaping. "You heard me, shoot" I looked straight at Jaden with confidence in my eyes.
Jaden's smirk faltered for a second, it was a slight movement but I saw it. Adam straightened his bent arm that was connected to the hand holding the gun. He took aim once again."I'm- I ain't bluffin' kid". Sure you aren't that's why the hesitation in your voice is so evident.
I continued to suppress my lippy remarks and looked down. I couldn't hold Jaden's glare because every time I looked at him I kept remembering that he was the one that had bought me, he was the one that was keeping me from my freedom. It's clear Jaden was the ring leader of the group, he ran this circus. He orders and the rest obey.
As these thoughts flooded my mind the pressure of the gun against my head lifted. Surprised of the sudden movements I looked at Jaden, I wanted to believe they were letting me go but the stupid smug smile Jaden wore told me otherwise. He put his hands in his pocket to get something out, before I could see what it was I spun on my heels to face Adam. I looked up, quickly scanning his blond hair, small blue eyes and strong jaw covered in stubble. He removed the gun from my head because he was getting ready to swing a punch across the head. No way am I getting hit in the head twice, especially in the same night. It's a miracle I never got a concussion from the first one.
Within a second I rammed my elbow into Adams stomach with all the will power I had left. The attack took him by surprise forcing him to groan in pain. He stepped back and clutched his stomach, giving me space to head for the elevator. I tucked my phone into my uniform dress pocket and stepped out of the room. I then turned right, dashing through the corridor. I couldn't have hit him that hard could I? Still moving my feet as fast as possible I look behind me. Adam straightened up but Jaden already came out the room and shoved him aside. Jaden put a sharp silver object back into his empty pocket and started to run after me.
I looked ahead of me again and picked up my pace. Where was I even going? I never had been to this part of the hotel before. According to the structure and layout of the rest of the building the elevator should be on my next left. I turned and there it was. I slammed the elevator button repeatedly; it felt like my whole lifetime was going waiting for it to arrive. I turned to open the door that lead to the stairs instead but just then the elevator doors opened. Relief washed over me, I rushed inside and pressed the button that lead to the reception hall."Hurry up" I moaned. The doors began to close...
...they were still closing. OMFG, Hurry up! There was still a chance I-
In the last moment Jaden appeared, still running he slid into the elevator and the doors closed shut, trapping the two of us in.
Both of us were breathing hard. Jaden glared at me, annoyance and anger was written all over his face. I backed up seeing the ferocity in his eyes.
After a few long seconds, Jaden regained his posture and slowly took a few steps towards me. He suddenly stopped opposite me and opened his mouth to speak. "Idiot, I'm not gonna rape you. You look like a firkin retard with your eyes wide open...and you know you can't disappear into the walls no matter how hard you press against it".
I was surprised by his sudden assertion but he was right. I was trying to maximize the distance between us. I felt like a caged animal, like the walls were closing in and there was no way of escaping. Although I felt a sense of relief knowing that Jaden wasn't going to touch me...or was that what he wanted me to believe, so that he could gain my trust? Either way I have to be vigilant, be on my guard at all times and trust nobody. My muscles loosened up a bit and I inhaled slowly.
"I still don't get how a small girl like yourself put up such a fight" Jaden looked at me questioningly. What else was I meant to do asshole, stand there and look pretty?
"I'm only what, 2 years younger than you?" I retorted.
"I'm 24" he stated
"Fine 3 years younger"
"And Adam, you really gave it to him, impressive" Jaden said respectfully.
Ignoring his compliment, I cleared my throat and asked "what do you want with me?" I don't think I was particularly afraid of him, I mean if he wanted to really harm me then he would have done it by now.
"Oh, you'll find out soon enough", he put his hand in his pocket, getting something out again. It was the same sharp object I saw in his hand before. I didn't recognise what it was then but now I could tell it was a syringe. A syringe?
... but now isn't the time". Jaden declared as he jabbed the syringe into the right side of my neck. I yelped as the sharp needle punctured my raw flesh. With his thumb he pressed down on the top of the syringe, injecting a liquid substance into my blood stream.
In no time at all my vision began to blur and I immediately became really drowsy. My mind was shutting down. I assumed he injected a drug in me that was forcing me to go unconscious. I really believed that he wasn't going to do me any harm. My eye lids began to droop as I battled with myself to stay awake, I had to stay on my guard but I just felt so...so...sleepy. My legs gave away and I dropped into Jaden's arms, falling into a deep slumber.
