"They're not that bad, Y/N, I promise," Tyler reassures you. "You can hold my hand on the plane if you get nervous."
Tyler looks back down under the bed as your face begins to heat up. You hurriedly scurry to your closet in the hopes neither of them saw a blush attacking your cheeks. You glance back at them to see Josh glaring at Tyler, who's not returning it, before looking back at your smaller closet full of your instruments and instrument accessories.
"You play the drums, too?" Josh asks. He's holding up your favorite drum sticks and no longer looking at Tyler.
"Only while you're not looking," you joke, throwing some of your favorite clothes out of your closet in the general direction of the bed.
"Better watch out before she takes your place in the band," Tyler laughs as he grabs your favorite pair of shoes from under the bed. You've surprisingly kept them in decent condition regardless of how much you wear them. That said, they're no where near their prime.
"What instruments do you want me to pack?" Josh asks after chuckling at Tyler's joke.
"Uh, just my bass, my beat machine, and the attatchments to it. Y'know, like the microphone," you add. If you want to play the piano, you'll just play Tyler's, which he'll be undoubtedly bringing.
"Got it, sunshine," Josh mumbles before you hear the shuffling of him packing the things up.
You stupidly blush at the nickname he always calls you. You can't think of how he came up with it or when he started calling you that. Tyler has always tried giving you a similar cute nickname, but he's yet to make one that sticks. You don't know if it's cuter that Josh calls you sunshine, or that Tyler desperately tries to give you something like Josh's 'sunshine'.
You lightly smile to yourself, getting lost in thought. You wonder what it will be like being trapped on a bus with Tyler and Josh; you'll certaintly get closer with them. The only question is how.
***
"Do I have to?"
"Yeah, sunshine. You have things in your office that you kinda definitely need."
You groan. Not one bit of you wants to run into any of your ex-coworkers and definitely not David.
"Do I just like... run?"
"Theres a wet floor sign, Y/N. Look, if David tries to make any advances, we'll stop him, alright? He might not even be here today," Tyler reassures and you smile at him.
"Alright, thank you Tyler. Means a lot." It's great to have two amazing best friends that are always there for you. You make mental note to hug them — for some reason you're just feeling extra thankful for them being there for you today.
Tyler opens the door for you, letting yourself and Josh walk in first. There's no sign of David, at least, not yet.
If I can make it down the hall I'll be home free.
You look down at the wet floor sign that Tyler pointed out and carefully take your first step, dyer, ones not to fall and look like an idiot in front of him and Josh.
But of course, you don't even have enough coordination to walk across the floor without making an ass out of yourself. Two steps later, your rear collides with the ground; you feel water the water splash on your back and forearms.
"Shit!" you exclaim, more mad at yourself than you are hurt.
"Y/N!"
In seconds, both of your friends are by your side helping you up.
"Are you okay?" Tyler asks, his light brown eyes filled with concern.
"Y-Yeah... Thanks Ty." You smile at him, blushing a light pink when he wraps an arm around your waist to keep you stable once Josh lets go.
"Stay here, I'll go get your stuff," Josh says, already walking away before you can dare protest that you're okay.
You shift your weight quickly, one side proving to be painful due to the fall.
"Are you sure that you're okay? Haven't you broken your tail bone before?" Tyler asks, anxiously scanning over you once more.
"We don't talk about that skating accident, alright?" you say, remembering the oh-so embarrassing incident.
A couple of minutes pass, and Tyler helps you limp back closer to the exit. Josh probably got lost on his way to your office, even though he's been there plenty of times. You and Tyler both exhale a sigh at the same time, glancing at each other when you notice.
"We spend too much time together," you joke.
"Even more once we'll be sharing hotels and riding a bus."
"I can't wait! It feels so surreal..."
"It does. It's gonna be interesting spending that much time together. Hopefully you don't get sick of me and Josh," Tyler says, adding a laugh to mask his nervousness.
"How could I ever get sick of the two best people on Earth?" The concept of getting sick of the two of them is completely foreign to you.
Tyler has a small hint of a smile as he lightly tugs on your waist, bringing you just a bit closer, closing the space between you both. You feel at peace, the way you usually feel when you're alone with Tyler. You sigh and lean your head on his shoulder.
This isn't platonic, Y/N.
The thoughts attack your mind again. The same old ones, really. What are you doing, Y/N? Just keep things platonic, Y/N. You're doing something stupid, Y/N.
Don't you dare think about being in a relationship with either of the boys, Y/N.
Those rounds of thoughts continue in their unending loops that pull you deeper and deeper until Tyler's voice cuts through them, how it does whenever your thoughts get bad. He can always tell.
"I know that look, Y/N. Whatever you're thinking about, it's going to be okay. Are you having second thoughts about going on tour with us? I understand you're gonna feel homesick and-" Tyler starts the process of rambling, before you cut him short.
"No, Tyler. I'm not having second thoughts about the tour, I'm still really excited. Homesick? Do you really think I call Ohio home and that's the reason I'm still here?" you say, dismissing his own anxieties.
"I don't follow... Uh..." Tyler pauses, like he's trying to recall your name. "Why can't I just come up with a nickname?" he mutters frustratedly, scolding himself for his lack of creativity. You suppress a laugh to be able to say what you need to.
"You and Josh are my home, Ty-"
"I FINALLY GOT YOUR STUFF!"
