"It did?" he asks, sounding sad.

"Y-yeah."

He pauses, "I'll be right there, just give me a minute."

"Th-thank you."

Loud Boss shuts the door.

I turn and walk down the stairs.

I get down and look at New Boss.

He hasn't moved.

I sigh.

I walk to the couch and sit by him.

I look him up and down.

he seems lost.

I should get him out of that before Loud Boss comes downstairs.

I take a deep breath and raise my hand.

I go to tap his shoulder, but stop and pull my hand away.

I shouldn't be doing this, I could get killed.

But, he's in pain...

I take in another breath this time it's shakey.

I reach to the tall skeleton, having to get a tad bit closer to him than I'd like.

I look at his face, his eye lights gone.

His face neutral.

I reach forward and poke his face.

His face twitches slightly.

I poke him again.

Again he only twitches.

I start to poke him repeatedly.

It's only a few seconds before New Boss's eye lights are glowing again.

He turns to look at me.

I immediately drop my hand.

"H-hey," I say, a nervous smile on my face.

"Hey," He responds, sounding sad.

"I-I uh, t-talked to your b-brother," I tell him.

"Oh, thanks man, but you didn't have to," He says lifting his hand and reaching for my head.

I flinch, closing my eyes and covering my head with my hands, expecting to be hit.

I feel nothing for a bit, as I sit there, trembling.

After a small bit, I feel bone on the top of my head.

His hand.

New Boss starts to rub my head with his hand, making little circles.

I slowly let my arms drop back to my sides.

I start to move into his touch.

I hear someone clear their throat.

My eyes open and I look to the stairs where Loud Boss is standing.

My face glows a bright red.

"Oh, hey, Blue," New Boss says quietly.

"Look, Paps, I didn't mean to yell, I was just," Loud Boss sighs.

"I didn't have the best day, and I didn't want you to intervene. I've got it covered and I didn't want you going all protective brother like you usually do. I can handle myself, and I want to show you that. But, it wasn't right for me to yell at you or to push you away. I'm sorry," Loud Boss says.

New Boss stays quiet for a while, thinking.

"I'm sorry, Blue. I shouldn't have tried pressuring you into telling me what's the matter. I should have respected your space, but I was worried about you. You almost never come home unhappy," he says.

"I just, I just don't want to lose you. I don't want to see you hurt, Blue," New Boss says, a few tears starting to leak from his sockets.

"You won't Papy. You don't have to worry about that, Alphys is training me how to protect myself."

Alphys?

Why would a mad scientist be helping someone learn how to protect themselves?

Then again, this place does seem to be like home, but not quite.

"I know, Blue, I just can't help but be worried."

"Everything's gonna be okay, Papy, like I said I took care of the issue," Loud Boss says, a smile on his face.

"Okay, Blue. I believe you. Now come here and give me a hug," New Boss tells him.

Loud Boss runs over and gives New Boss a hug, causing me to flinch.

Loud Boss releases from the hug, "Now, I'm going to bed, Papy. I love you!" he says as he bounces off to the stairs.

"Okay, good night, Blue!" New Boss says.

We sit in silence for a moment.

"Thank you, Red."

I look up at New Boss, confused.

"Thanks for talking to my bro, I really appreciate it."

I nod, "I-it's no big deal."

"It's a big deal to me," He tells me, putting his arm around me.

I tense up slightly as he pulls me toward him.

He wraps his arms around me.

I hold my breath for a small moment before relaxing.

I could get used to this.

I hear a slight rumble from inside of New Boss's chest.

He fell asleep on me.

I grab ahold of his hoodie, snuggling into him.

I could attempt to short cut us to his bedroom, but I'm really comfy and I don't wanna wake New Boss.

I feel myself drifting off to sleep and, to be honest, I don't mind.
