AN: Serious sh*t is about to go down...
"CAS, THE FLOWERS ARE HERE!", shouted Michael Novak, as he heard the doorbell ring.
Quickly, Castiel raced down the spiralling staircase, and flung open the gigantic wooden door.
Men were holding countless flower arrangements from corsages to full on bouquets, that were made up of roses, carnations, daisies, lilies, and any other flower that you could possibly think of.
Cas tried not to look too shocked, as he accepted the various floral bundles, being careful to not damage them in any way.
He then walked into the kitchen, where Hael and Gabriel were busy frosting the humungous wedding cake, that Cas had insisted they make from scratch.
Hael was laughing as her brother flung a spoonful of frosting at her, her grey eyes bright with excitement.
"Hey, Cas!", they both said in unison and Castiel smiled at them.
"How's the cake coming along?", he asked, absentmindedly pushing his glasses back up higher against the bridge of his nose.
The thick black-rimmed frames never stayed put, and that aggravated him.
His sister smiled.
"Pretty good. We just need to finish frosting it and get the cake topper on and we'll be all set."
Cas nodded, and gave them both an approving smile.
"Well, it looks great. Keep up the good work."
They laughed, Gabriel casually flinging another clump of frosting at Hael.
Castiel left, before he became the next victim of the frosting war.
When he walked back out into the living room, his mother was talking to someone in the parlour.
Castiel smiled a little, when he saw who it was.
Sarah Adams (soon-to-be Novak), was sitting on one of the sofas, wearing a pretty yet simplistic floral sundress.
She smiled and waved, when she saw her fiancé in the doorway.
"Hi."
Cas swallowed, willing the lump in his throat to disappear.
He smiled back, giving her an awkward attempt at a wave.
"Hi, Sarah."
She giggled at that, her hazel eyes bright.
"So, formal.", she mocked, winking at him.
"I try to be.", he said, winking back at her.
Mrs. Angela Novak cleared her throat, so that the lovers would know that she was still there and not eager to see them get overly physical with each other, at all.
They both acknowledged her presence, turning and smiling at her.
She gave them a thin-lipped proper smile.
Not even the dimples appeared in her cheeks.
"Sarah. It's a pleasure. Tell me, are you quite ready for tomorrow?"
The girl who was sitting on the sofa, opposite Mrs. Angela Novak, nodded.
"Almost. I've got to have another fitting and there's the rehearsal yet..."
Cas' mother nodded, agreeing.
"Yes, there is that. Can't have you getting married without all of that taken care of."
She then looked at her son, her expression serious.
"Castiel dear, why don't you go now and get your tuxedo fitting done with. I want to talk to your future wife in private for a little while."
Cas nodded, and left soon after, giving Sarah a kiss on the cheek as he said 'goodbye'.
Then, he got into his red shiny convertible, and drove off on his way to the tailor's.
Three hours later, Castiel was done and had a freshly pressed tux in the back seat.
He was feeling like going for a drive around for awhile, so he drove down a long but quiet country road to clear his head.
That's when he noticed, a very familiar looking house, one that he had thought the town would've condemned by now.
It was the same house, where Dean had taken Cas one night after they had been together for a while, it's exterior now completely redone, new wooden beams had been put up and a roof was slowly being added to the top of it.
Castiel wondered suddenly who in hell would actually want to restore that rundown old pile of junk.
Who was actually that keen and more or less stupid.
Then it hit him, just when the man who lived there, emerged from it, the door opening with a squeaking sound.
Cas gasped in surprise, when he saw Dean standing on it's front porch, shirtless, his baggy jeans hanging just below his hips.
Dean smiled happily when he saw Castiel, his green eyes sparkling.
Cas tried to ignore him, hoping Dean would realize that he wasn't in the mood to talk right now.
Or ever.
But, that clearly wasn't the case because, Dean began to actually walk over, when Castiel refused to acknowledge his presence.
Cas panicked, heart thumping loudly against his chest, feeling like he was going to be sick at any moment, if Dean took one step closer to him.
He tried wracking his brain for a good lie.
Something that would if anything, reassure Dean.
But, nothing came to mind.
Nothing that he would actually believe, anyway.
And so, Cas decided, he was going to tell Dean the truth, no matter the consequence.
Even if, Dean would hate him afterwards.
Cautiously, Castiel began walking towards him, hating the way his heart jumped at the thought of finally seeing him again, hating how he actually loved it.
He felt his eyes burn, when he saw Dean open his arms, felt the hot tears rush down his face, as he ran towards those outstretched arms.
Dean smiled, and embraced Cas, whispering to him quietly, as he began to stroke his dark brown hair, brushing some of it back a little, so that he could see those brilliant blue eyes that he loved.
And Castiel sobbed loudly into Dean's shoulder, until there was no more tears left in his eyes.
Then, he swallowed, preparing his words.
But, Dean beat him to it.
"Hiya, Cas. I'm really glad that you're back. I missed you. What's wrong?"
Cas sighed, starting to re-think actually telling Dean.
"No.", he muttered bitterly to himself.
"You can do this. Just tell him."
Dean looked worriedly at Castiel.
"Tell me, WHAT?", he asked, the worry evident on his face.
Castiel took a deep breath, his blue eyes still spilling over with tears.
His glasses began to fog up, and he ended up throwing them off his face, and they landed by an oak tree that was very close to Dean's house.
"I-I need to tell you something.", he breathed, eyes shifting over everything except the man who was standing in front of him.
Dean nodded and then shrugged.
"Uh okay, something wrong, Cas?"
He couldn't find the right words to tell his boyfriend, the man he thought he loved, the truth.
There was no perfect way to summarize what a stupid pathetic cheater Castiel Novak had been.
He sighed loudly, trying to prepare his next words.
"I-I'm getting married."
Dean looked shocked and confused at that, then his expression became stern.
"To who.", he said, it wasn't a question, but Cas still took it as one.
"A girl I met at medical school, her name is Sarah. Sarah Adams. I proposed to her and she said yes, so now my whole family is back at home, getting ready for my wedding."
Dean kept looking at Castiel with his stern gaze.
Cas felt so vulnerable under it, he wanted to curl up in a hole and die right then and there.
"Not Chuck.", he finally said, his green eyes shining with a eery brightness.
Castiel nodded, sadly.
"Yes, but the rest of them are there. Zachariah and Rachel are even coming down tomorrow."
"What's tomorrow?", Dean asked, even though it was obvious he knew the answer.
The other man, tried not to smile.
"It's my wedding day."
Dean nodded, but didn't smile back at him.
Cas rubbed at his eyes, trying to make the image of Dean Winchester not so blurry.
Dean sighed slightly exasperated, as he reached down to get Castiel's glasses.
"Thank you.", he said, taking the thick black-rimmed frames from Dean's grasp.
But, Dean didn't reply.
"Are you mad?", Cas asked, his expression slightly worried.
"What do YOU think?!", Dean spat.
And because, he was so close to Cas, the other man actually felt the spit hit his face.
"Of course, I'm mad! You go off to med school and then come back f**king engaged! Gee, do you not think that's not a good enough reason to be mad, Cas?! Cause, I think it f**king well is! But, you know what? Who cares?! Who really f**king cares about me anyway?! It's not like I haven't been cheated on before! Yeah that's right Castiel, I've been with others besides you! You weren't the first and you won't certainly be the last!"
Castiel felt more tears streaming rapidly down his cheeks.
He felt like he was gonna puke.
Dean was mad at him and hated him now.
What was the good in that?
He took a shaky trembling breath.
"I-I'm sorry."
Dean laughed bitterly.
"Ha! YOU'RE sorry! That's well en' good for you! But, what about me?! What about what you've done to me, Cas?! I trusted you! Hell, I f**king loved you! And you-you threw that away, like it was some useless piece of sh*t! Like it was just garbage to you! Did you not get my letters?! Did you ever even read them?! I f**king missed you, Cas! So f**king much and you just didn't seem to f**king care! Too busy with life at f**king med school to pay attention to your f**king BOYFRIEND! Yeah, that's right! We are together, but not anymore! As far as I'm concerned, this relationship is done! I never want to see you again, you lying f**king cheater!", Dean yelled, pushing Cas roughly away from him.
"Oh, and while we're at it. GET THE F**K OFF MY PROPERTY!!!"
Castiel stumbled back from the impact of Dean shoving him away, he fell onto the grass, accidentally staining his clean grey slacks, in the process.
Dean pushed him again, even kicked him with his boots.
Cas could only sob as Dean Winchester kicked him all the way to his car.
He had great difficulty getting into the driver's seat, but managed to get into it, after several attempts.
He didn't remember driving back home, but when he woke up the next morning, he felt the bruises Dean had left on his body as he shoved him and kicked him across the lawn, and that made him sob again, wishing he hadn't been so stupid.
Then, he finally got dressed.
Today was his wedding day after all, and he wasn't going to let Dean Winchester ruin that for him, too.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..."
Castiel didn't fully hear the officiate's words, as he stood beside Sarah, outside by the large twisted and gnarled apple tree in his families's backyard.
The sun shone down warm and bright on the happy couple, as they said their wedding vows.
Sarah, in her whimsical white lacy bridal gown and Cas, in his freshly pressed and fitted jet black tuxedo.
Their hands clasped together, as they stared deeply into each other's eyes.
He could only nod and utter a trembling 'I do.' because, he was so overcome with happiness.
Castiel Novak had never thought in a million years that he'd be here today, making one of the most important decisions in his entire life.
But even so, he was very grateful that he'd survived twenty years of living and could now spend the rest of it, with the woman he loved.
"What God has brought together today, let no man break apart.", the officiate said, as he smiled at the two of them.
Mrs. Angela Novak was sobbing now, a Kleenex placed delicately over her mouth, with one of her small yet dainty white-gloved hands.
Hael and Gabriel were staring longly at their brother, wishing that they too could find love like that.
Just a week before, Hael had been dumped by her long-time boyfriend Tommy and hadn't taken it too well.
Now though, she seemed happy for Cas, as she threw pale pink rose pedals onto the grass below them.
"NOT YET, HAEL!", shouted Michael, as he grabbed the flower basket away from his younger sister.
She pouted and flung herself back down into her white plastic chair, folding her arms over her chest.
Mrs. Angela Novak shot a look at both of her children and they both stopped their antics, turning to watch their brother.
"You may kiss the bride."
Castiel didn't need to be told twice.
He lunged quickly at her, causing Sarah to gasp in shock.
But, the girl didn't refuse when he finally kissed her.
Their lips moved together and with his blue eyes closed tightly shut, Cas could almost imagine that it was Dean that he was kissing, instead.
He sighed, grabbing her tighter, as he tried to rock against her body.
Then, his eyes immediately sprung open.
He sighed very quietly.
It was a sad sigh, nothing like just a moment ago.
Castiel pulled back and away from Sarah, his bright blue eyes wondering and worry-filled.
He swallowed, and turned back towards his family, grabbing her hand in his, as he flashed them all a cheesy smile.
Cas didn't remember the reception afterward.
Or, the beautiful ten tiered wedding cake that his siblings had made for him.
He ended up going up to his room, where he began sobbing loudly and throwing the old black and white photo, he still had of him and Dean Winchester together at the lake from last summer.
They were both cuddled up in each other's arms, eyes fixated on the other, hands clasped together on the picnic blanket.
And, in the background, there were mallard ducks swimming slowly across the clear crystal blue water.
Now, the glass of the frame had a large crooked gash in it down the middle, so that it almost completely separated them.
This only made Castiel cry harder, as he watched his tears spill quickly out of his eyes and onto the cracked glass of the picture frame, landing in a line it seemed in the gash down the middle.
When Sarah Novak came upstairs later, she found her husband sleeping, with a photo in a cracked frame, clutched to his chest, his eyes red from crying and cheeks stained with marks left by tears.
She sighed softly, taking the photo from his arms, and placing it back on his dresser.
This wasn't how she'd pictured spending her first night as Mrs. Novak at all, but Sarah knew better than to complain after all, she knew that she didn't deserve to be with Cas, but she was darn grateful that she was.
So, she pressed a soft tender kiss to his cheek, turned off Cas' lamp on the nightstand and then walked back down stairs, pondering why her husband had gotten so upset earlier that day.
She hadn't even bothered to glance at the photo, seeing as it was not her business to, but now she wondered.
"Why the hell would he smash it?", she asked herself, in the dim lights of the kitchen.
But, there was no one there to tell her, or to warn Sarah Adams into what she had now stepped into.
One thing was certain, she was going to find out the hard way...
