"We can never be. You're with her.. and I belong to him." She trailed off as tears filled her eyes.

"But he don't deserve ya, mama. You deserve betta'."

"And so do you. But it's not meant to be."

"It is. You're all I've ever wanted." I stared deep into her brown eyes.

"I'm wanted everywhere, huh?" She nervously laughed.

"What you mean?"

Then the sound of roaring sirens near could be loudly heard. The look on her face confused me even more, I felt her body tense up and she looked panicked.

"I gotta go." She softly smiled, pulling away from me.

"Wait! Ya name, ma?"

"For now I'll be Diamond."

"Diamond?" I asked confused.

"They're the most wanted. Just like me." She smiled and quickly turned away.

I couldn't do anything but feel defeated as she literally ran out of my life. I could have followed but I knew my heart was setting me up for some type of failure.

Just like with Yasmin.

I turned away and three police cars were speedin' in my direction, going after her I assume.

*

I woke up sweating and more than confused from the dream I just had.

What was that about?

More importantly who was the girl. I've never seen her before.

She was so beautiful though. In that short dream I was calmer and happier than Yasmin could make me in all of these years.

Who is this girl?

Kaimana

Another day, another dollar.

I tied my Winn-Dixie work apron behind my back and put my hair into a high bun as I finished getting ready to work.

Quickly stuffing everything into my locker and locking it, I smoothed the small wrinkles in my clothes out and headed out of the break room.

I fixed shelves and random misplaced things on the way to where I was working so I wouldn't have too much extra to do later on.

I grabbed my labeling gun and scanner and began the long process of changing and checking prices.

--

It was around 6:30 so the store was surprisingly slowing up, then again it's the end of the month and most of our customers use WIC or food stamps, so there probably isn't much for them to get any more.

I noticed there was a line that was getting long so I finished the shelf I was working on and rushed over to an empty lane to ring some customers up.

I had gotten through two customers and I thought I was free to go until I saw some items placed on the belt.

I quickly began opening bags and clearing the register.

"Hungry Man dinners?" I laughed, inspecting the boxes the customer placed in front of me as I rung them up.

"What's funny?" He asked almost sounding hurt.

"Oh, nothing. I'm sorry." I nervously smiled and finally looked up at him.

When our eyes met it was the weirdest feeling. Almost as if we had crossed paths before.

I could tell he was experiencing the same feeling because the look on his face gave it all away.

"It's okay, uh,-" He turned his head sideways to look at my name tag. "Kaimana?"

"Yup." I smiled, stretching my apron so he was able to see it clearer.

"Oh." His face dropped and he almost looked defeated.

"Why you look like that?" I asked as I finished ringing his food up.

"Nothing. You just looked familiar. I'on know, I need sleep honestly." He laughed, handing me a twenty bill to pay for his groceries.

"Yeah and a woman to cook for you and massage you and all 'lat. You look like you need it."

"Wow." His eyes widened almost in amazement.

"What?" I chuckled, handing him his change.

"You're like a mind reader. Well, I mean I have a girl--fiancée actually, but she does none of those things."

"And you wanna marry her?" My eyebrows furrowed with a slight smirk.

"You can't help or change who you love." He said sounding sad, as I handed him his receipt and bag.

"Right." I mumbled.

"G'night, Diamond." He smiled.

"G'night--wha'?" I realized what he had said but he was gone before I could ask any question.

I shook my head and laughed to myself as I shut off the register.

The weirdest things happen around here.
