Chapter Eighteen • One Last Night

Start from the beginning

I didn't even know what to say to that, I was completely speechless and turned away from his careless and insensitive person. I thought that Faisal could be rude to everyone but atleast not to his sister but now I found out that I was wrong. He was the most unsympathetic, inhumane person I've ever come across and to prove it more, he didn't even flinch when Fatima started crying from the backseat.

He has just shamed her and insulted her and degraded her for something that wasn't her fault. She wasn't the one that chose to be born blind, she was helpless and instead of him to defend her against whoever it was that made such a rude comment to her, he was actually supporting the guy and laughing at her.

I turned back to Fatima again and managed to reach my hand out to hers, stroking it gently. "It's okay Fatima, your brother was joking I'm sure. Right Faisal?" I signalled him to go along.

"No, I wasn't. I tell nothing but the truth and only the truth. That's why my darling, you're lucky to have me as your future hubby." he winked back at me and ignored Fatima, putting his full attention back on the road.

Faisal will never cease to disgust me even more than I thought was possible. He had no empathy towards anyone but himself, not even his own sister and so I give up and busy myself with playing with and admiring the ring on my finger.

I was more than glad to jump out of his car when we finally reached the gates of our house but I felt sorry for Fatima. She was stuck with such a person as her brother and now, I see that I'm incredibly lucky to have Yasin. He might always be teasing me and looking for excuses for us to fight but he still loved me and would never treat me like Faisal just treated Fatima.

Yasin has gotten just a little bit better these few days. He talks to us now and he has stopped using those pills so atleast its a start to healing. And When I enter into the house, I was thankful to find him seated on the three sitter in the living room and watching TV. I approached him and sat heavily on the couch too.

"What do you want?" Yasin asks boredly without removing his eyes from the football match he was watching.

"Nothing..." I trailed off, thinking of whether it was the right time to talk to him about Ahmad so he would be on our side.

"Good, so leave."

"On second thought," I scoot a little bit closer to him. "There's a... uhmmm Yaya, there's just..."

"What do you want? Say it already or leave and let me finish watching my match in peace." Yasin glances at his watch, "It's even just a half hour to go before it's time for Jum'ah prayers."

"Okay okay I'll speak just listen." I took a deep breath and turned fully towards him, "Its about that Faisal Ibrahim guy. Yaya wallahi bana son shi ko kadan, ba mutumin kirki ne ba (Brother I swear that I don't like him even a little bit, he isn't a good person)"

"Well, since it seems we have to talk about this in the middle of Arsenal whooping Liverpool's ass, tell me then, why did the engagement happen on Tuesday? Didn't you tell Abba and Umma that you don't like him?"

"I did but Umma just isn't ready to listen to me, she's bent on making me marry him because... because..."

Yasin sighed, just a little bit exasperated. "Would you just talk already? I don't have time here, trying to watch this match and listen to you and still make it on time for Jum'ah prayers."
