I made my way out of the bar, and ordered an uber from my phone. I roll my eyes at the estimated time of arrival - 10 minutes - and sat down on the curb, patiently waiting. my knees were pulled up to my chest, and the humid California air made my skin sticky and gross. I hate the humidity - it's pointless and disgusting.

as I'm sitting on the curb, I fiddle with the neatly folded napkin I held in my hand. im surprised by myself - I havent lost it yet.

"what the hell," I whisper to myself, typing the number into the "New Message" box. I sent the message before adding her to my contacts, silently praying that I spelled her name correctly.

before I could type a response, my uber pulled up in front of me. I stand up from my place on the curb and get into the car, my bottom lip caught between my teeth as I buckle up. I continue typing to billie.

the uber pulls up in front of the apartment that I share with a friend. i tuck my phone into my bra once again, and make my way up the 5 flights of stairs. seeing as I was still tipsy, walking up 5 flights of stairs, I was just trying to hold on for dear life as I walk the narrow stairway.

meanwhile, my phone was vibrating like crazy in my bra.

I paid no mind. I'll check it when I get into the apartment, so i can focus on getting home instead of falling down the damn stairs, like I have a habit of doing.

about 10 minutes later, I stumble into my apartment. my hands were sweaty from holding onto the stairwell too tight, and my ankles were already swelling because..well, walking up 5 flights of stairs while intoxicated is an extreme sport that only I can achieve a medal in, I guess.

I walk into my room, pushing my tangled hair out of my face before throwing my tiny purse onto the floor and plopping myself onto my bed. my phone continued to vibrate in my bra. having forgotten that I was in the middle of a conversation, I pull my phone out of my bra, utterly annoyed at the constant vibration.

I didnt expect to find so many messages from a complete stranger.

I silently laugh at the messages, typing a reply to her as fast as I could

I sent the message jokingly, and put my phone on the charger. not too long afterward, my phone starts ringing.

incoming facetime from billie.

I sigh deeply and answer the call.

"yes?" I say, sitting up on my bed. I run my hand through my already messy hair and look at the girl.

she was in a brighter place, so I assumed she was in the bathroom of the club. her blue eyes stared into me, and I could feel them on me even through the phone screen.

"what the hell." she said, her face becoming hard. "you scared the fuck out of me."

"and I'm sorry," I reply, rolling my eyes. "you literally met me an hour ago, why do you even care?"

her face immediately turned red. "why shouldn't i?" she replied, her eyes seemingly becoming glossy. she paused for a minute or two before looking down at her lap and then back at me. "forget it."

call ended.
