The apartment was a mess. It was littered with books on top of books of all shapes and sizes. The room was also dark and dimly lit but she could tell at the corner of the room stood a stack of empty pizza boxes.
"It's...homey?"
"It's a mess."
"Nooo. Okay, maybe a little."
"I didn't think anyone-"
"It's my fault, I should've let you known or at least asked."
Spencer shrugged, "You were bound to see it sooner of later."
He felt himself blush as the words escaped his mouth. It wasn't like he didn't mean what he said but the way he said it- well, it just sounded wrong.
"What are you trying to say, Doc?" She teased with a chuckled.
"That's not what I meant."
"I know what you mean, or do I? Morgan might say otherwise."
"He has his ways of finding things out."
"Heaven forbid he knew I was here, whatever would he think?" She said in a formal, british tone.
Spencer's smile widened as he went along with her game, "Dear Scout, I believe he would throw a fit that he didn't get his own invite."
Scout bursted out, laughing.
"What?" He chuckled.
"You make it sound like a threeway or something."
He felt his ear burn as he realized what he said, "Let's forget I ever said that, okay?"
"I'm not the one with the edenic memory, Doctor Reid. That would be you in this situation."
Scout set down all the candy on the kitchen table, some of the bags falling in between the stacks of books that already claimed the table. Spencer followed over to her and picked up the movie, reading over the back.
"It's a kids movie?"
She gasped and grabbed the case back, "No! It's so much more than that, it's a life style. It's a way of living. If anyone else heard you then they would throw a stapler at your head."
"Why a stapler?"
"I don't know, it was the first thing that popped in my head."
Spencer looked at her with furled eyebrows but his smile never went away. She confused him. It was like, no matter what she said, it didn't make sense but was still proper english.
He starred at her, calculating every detail. She stood a good foot short led than him but still carried herself like she was the biggest person in the room. When Scout smiled, she always looked like she was up to something and it left him with the feeling like he was on the edge of his seat. Like the drop of a roller coaster was about to happen.
"So, what do you say, Doc?" Scout pulled him from his thinking.
"What?"
"You wanna watch the first one? I know it's sacrilegious to watch the movie before the book but I can't live another day without you being deprived of real magic."
Spencer looked at her in shock, "You want to watch it? With me?"
"Well, duh. Who else is there here? Unless - you don't have a super hot model roommate I should know about, do you?"
"Sadly, no." He laughed.
She nodded, "Good. And you have a TV?"
"I think it's behind the books."
"Yeah, so are the walls of this place."
After Spencer did some rearranging, the pair sat themselves down on the leather couch. Both on opposite sides, of course. Scout munched on her favorite sour candy while Spencer preferred to break off pieces of the large crunch bar.
It was a comfortable silence between the two but Spencer couldn't help seeking glances at the fully immersed girl. Her eyes were as wide as golf balls and she mouthed each line the actors said, all by heart. Her body even jumped during all the jump scares as if she had never seen the movie before.
As the movie ended, Spencer snuck in one last stare at the girl as her smile widened more.
But Scout knew.
The doctor wasn't as sly as he thought he was. And whenever he wasn't looking at her, she would analyze him.
After all, everything was going according to plan.
