Avery sat over the toilet, throwing up the contents of her stomach. She'd felt sick for the past week and she was getting tired of it. She was getting ready to go to the doctor because she was beginning to think she had the flu.

Reid had gone to work about three hours ago and Avery stayed in bed, enjoying the small break she got from work. Somehow, she'd managed to put some clothes on and will herself out of the door and to the hospital.

Once she got there, she tried to keep the vomit from coming up while she waited to be called back. Her foot tapped against the floor as she closed her eyes to stop the world from spinning around her.

"Avery Walsh."

She shot up, ignoring the room titling around her, and followed the nurse back to a room. They took her stats, blood, and blood pressure. They asked her a series of questions that all nurses ask their patients before leaving her to wait for the doctor.

About half an hour and four calls from Dean, the doctor came back, clipboard in hand. "Ms. Walsh, I'm Doctor Weaver, how are you today?"

"I'm good," she replied. "Yourself?"

"I'm good, thank you," he flipped a piece of paper over on the chart and looked up at her. "Ms. Walsh, are you aware that you're pregnant?"

Her heart dropped to her feet as he breath caught in her throat. "What?"

"You're about six weeks along," he said to her. "There are options with having-"

"No, no, I just wasn't aware," she cut him off. "Life is busy, you know?"

"I understand," he replied. "Your symptoms are consistent with pregnancy, you need to make an appointment with a gynecologist."

"Yes, sir."

"Other than that, there's some vitamins that I can give you and some mild medicine for the nausea."

"Thank you."

Avery sat at home, going over her options. There was no doubt that Reid was the father of the baby but he wasn't ready for that. He'd told her multiple times that her job was his life and he wanted to do it for the rest of his life.

Not take care of a child. Sure Avery wanted kids but now? Not now. Not when both her and Reid's career were at the peak.

But she couldn't. She couldn't get rid of it. She never knew if she would be able to have a baby ever again, this was her one chance.

She wasn't going to make Reid settle down with her, she could take care of the baby by herself. Her hand pressed against her flat stomach as her body racked with sobs.

Her phone rang and she saw Reid's goofy face plastered on her phone. She continued sobbing as she declined the call, sending him a text and saying that she didn't feel good and was going to get some sleep.

oh, alright, love you, miss you x

She tried to control her sobs as she pulled the blanket over her head. She knew what she had to do and she knew it was going to hurt like hell.
