When they arrived back at Quantico, Avery pulled Hotch into the office for a word.

"Sir, I respect what you do greatly, I really do," she said, fumbling with her fingers nervously. "But I can't do it. I can't be a target and I think I'm too close to this team to not worry every second.."

"Is this the nice way of telling me you quit?"

Avery nodded. "Yes, sir. But not until you find a good replacement. I heard that gun cock behind me and I froze. But then I saw Reid and my body moved towards him while my mind was turning into mush."

"You care about him." He said.

"I do," she replied. "But I think I'm more equipped for writing a newspaper than kicking down a door."

"That's why we have Morgan," Hotch chuckled. "You're a valuable agent."

"Right," she chuckled, standing up and smiling at him. "Thank you, Aaron."

"It was our pleasure," he smiled, giving her a hug. "Don't be scared to flourish here."

"I won't, someone has to tease Spencer's horrendous hairstyles."

She stepped outside the office and headed to where the team was packing up. She knew they were watching and she knew they knew what happened. That she was going to quit.

Reid wrapped her up in a hug and she smiled into his chest. "I know it's hard-"

"Who's up for drinks?" Morgan asked.

***

They all sitting at the bar, laughing and taking shots. Avery slapped Reid's arm as he picked on her, Reid wrapping an arm around her shoulder.

She chuckled, looking up at meeting his eyes. Being around profilers, she'd learned to read body language. Being around suspects, she learned to read what their eyes was saying. And right now, his pupil were dilated and his carotid artery was pounding in his neck. Reid wanted nothing more than to take her in the back room.

"Come dance with me Derek!" Penelope squealed, pulling him onto the floor.

"That's our cue to leave." Avery smiled, waving at them before grabbing Reid's hand and pulling him outside the bar.

As they walked to the car, their laughter filled the alleyway, Reid spinning her around and pressing his lips against hers, her back pressing against the brick.

She immediately responded to his touch, her arms going around his neck and into his hair. He grabbed the backs of her thighs and lifted her against the wall as she hooked her legs around his waist.

Avery pulled away at the sound of the trash shuffling and Reid moved his lips to her neck, a laughing bubbling in her throat. "Spencer, I'm not having sex with you in an alleyway."

He pulled back, his breath cascading across her face. "You're right."

He let her onto the ground, taking her hand and pulling her to the car, where he drove very quickly to her apartment. They were a mess of limbs, kisses, and car keys by the time they fell into her apartment.

They barely made it to the bed by the time they were both bare, Reid's lips were moving against hers, his hands pressing her hips into the mattress as she searched for any kind of friction.

"Wait, wait!" she said and Reid pulled back. "I mean it this time, no strings, no one at work can find out. No feelings."

Reid was becoming antsy. "Yes, whatever you want."

He didn't waste any time, lining himself up at her entrance before snapping his lips against hers. Loud moans echoed through the small room at the contact they'd missed so much.

His hips were moving against hers, Avery lifting her hips for a better angle. Reid bit down gently on the flesh of her neck, Avery digging her nails in his shoulder blade.

She threw her head back against the bed, giving Reid pulled access of her neck. He bit down on his lip, wanting to try something. Hd was just about to wrap his fingers around her throat but pulled away last minute.

Avery grabbed his hand, placing it over her throat. "Do it. Whatever you want, do it."

His hand splayed across the base of her throat, wrapping his fingers around the sides just enough to give a little pressure. His hips bucked against hers and she let out a whimper, the new sensation sending waves of pleasure between her hips.

"Fuck, Avery, you look so good right now."

They were both nearing the edge, it'd been months since they'd been with anyone else and this was going to be over quickly. He wrapped his hand tighter around her throat as he picked up a pace, her eyes falling shut as she fell into an orgasm.

"Spencer.." She moaned, gripping his shoulder.

Her fingers dug into his forearm on the hand wrapped around her throat as Reid finished as well, Avery sucking in a deep breath as he released her throat, falling onto her chest as they both breathed.

Reid rolled over after he pressed a kiss to her chest and Avery leaned over, pressing a long kiss against his lips, her nose bumping against his. She got up and headed to the shower, eager to wash the day off of her.

She couldn't help but smile to herself, as much as she didn't want to admit it, she'd missed Spencer. Their time together and just having someone to spend time with that wasn't her dad.

While Avery was savoring her shower, Reid was changing the sheets and changing into more comfortable clothes. He settled in bed and waited for her to come out and settle in with him.

She changed into her pajamas and dried her hair as much as she could before settled in bed next to Reid. She snuggled into the pillow and looked over at him, meeting his hazel eyes.

He smiled softly, reaching out and pushing a strand of wet hair from her face. "Can I asked you something?"

She propped herself up on her elbow and smiled at him. "Of course."

"That abusive ex you mentioned.." he said slowly, testing the waters. "Who was he?"

She adjusted her position and met his eyes. "I met him in my last year in college. He was a TA, playing to become a lawyer. Communications class."

Reid nodded, listening intently to find out who she was. "He made me feel like I was important. That I deserved love that I never got. We moved too fast. He convinced me to move with him. And I did."

She was picking at a string in the bedsheets, ashamed of her past. "He was perfect, he was. And then I'd stay out too long with friends. He'd tell me to change me clothes. When I'd tell him to lay off, he'd hit me. Shove me against the wall, choke me until my lungs were burning. Tell me no one would want me if he left me. That I was worthless and-"

She stopped, tears burning her eyes as she struggled to keep herself together. "He graduated, gave me a good beating before he disappeared. Became a famous DA. Ever since then, my life's been a mess of hookups and half-hearted relationships. Because I can't let people in. The first person I ever let in was my mom and she left. Then him, he took advantage of me and left. I will always be not enough for someone."

Reid wrapped his arms around the girl and hugged her tightly. "I won't leave you."

Reid struggled with words and expressing his feelings but right now, he knew just what to say to her.
