The lightning flashes outside my window, thunder echoing a mere second later. I pull my bed covers a bit higher, as if hiding my shoulders and neck under the feathery duvet helps at all. I always loved the rain and thunder outside, I sometimes even go stand under the falling water droplets, well until my parents angrily call me inside.
But something feels wrong tonight, yet I don't know what it is. I shiver, although I am snuggly warm in my bed. I close my eyes and try and ignore the feeling that shouts wrong. I listen as the rain hits my window, a satisfying patter. I start to fall asleep ever so slightly when I hear a sound, unmistakably my window opening.
That's impossible.. I locked my window before I climbed into bed..
I sit up straight, my head snapping to my window. Sure enough, the curtains are swaying in the slight wind, water droplets whipping through the window onto the inside windowsill. Lightning lights up the dark sky outside for a second, illuminating the situation. My heart starts racing, but I make myself get up, walk to the window and pull it close, snapping the lock on. Maybe I didn't close it properly earlier. I climb back into bed.
It hasn't been 40 seconds since I closed the window, my eyes snap open. I turn my head to the side, glancing at my window, which is very much not closed. This is freaking impossible! I lie still for a few seconds, hoping that I'm hallucinating or something. A burst of thunder sounds outside, and I almost jump, then laugh to myself. "This is pathetic, I'm probably dreaming," I say.
I get up once again, my bare feet patter over to the window. I take hold of it, and begin to close it, but my eyes catch something in the dark. My heart jumps into my throat, and I reach up to rub my eyes. What I had seen was two, dark blue things, maybe eyes.. I look up, and fall backwards. There was something there, and it was closer now.
From the floor I hear a gross sound, a heavy, inhuman breathing. My whole body is frozen, I try to get up and call someone, do something, but I can't. I hear something wet sounding hit the windowsill. I look up in horror to see a bony, disgusting hand holding onto my windowsill. Rain is still escaping into my room, some stray drops landing on me. The hand stays there, and I hear only the raging storm outside and my heart thundering in my chest. Another matching hand joins the first and the scariest thing I have ever seen hoists itself up into my window frame. I want to scream but no sound escapes my mouth. The putrid smell of the thing makes me gag. It's terrifying blue eyes stare right at me and it lets out a gurgle. In another flash of lightning I see its sharp teeth, glinting in the temporary light. I start to push myself back and onto my feet. The thing launches itself into my room, landing with a soft thud on my carpet. As I aim for the door across my bed, it grabs hold of me and throws me at the wall with unnatural strength. I hit the wall head first and collapse on the floor. My head spins but I vaguely see it coming towards me. I try to shout or make any noise that would alert someone, but I can't, my throat is closed up. I try to push it away with my arms, and in return hear, and feel, how it grabs hold of an arm and splinters the bone in one easy maneuver. Pain spirals through my arm and I scream mentally. I writhe in pain. The thing jumps on me, and I see its mouth open wide, and its blade sharp teeth going straight for my other, unbroken arm.
I barely feel the needle sharp tear through my skin, as if it is nothing but warm butter. What I do feel is the warm blood trickle down my arm onto the carpeted floor and the pain following straight after...
Maybe not the end..
