Marinette placed a red rose on top of a beautiful two teared cake. The base was colored red with the complementing intricate design of black swirls. The top layer, a white diamond pattern with black beads at each vertex. Black dabs of icing surround the bottom of each level as the entirety of the sweet vanilla cake laid on a bright silver platter. Marinette's mother's birthday cake was finally complete.

"Phew!" The pigtailed girl rubbed the back of her hand on her forehead, inevitably smearing black icing on herself. "We're all done, papa."

"Hey, my loves, what are you two up to?"

"Hey, my loves, what are you two up to?"

Upon hearing Sabine's voice, Marinette and Tom simultaneously whipped around to face her as she came in, standing in front of the cake protectively.

"Nothing!" the both said.

"D-Definitely not working on a surprise cake for you tonight!" Tom sputtered out.

Marinette hummed in agreement before she realized the icing on her forehead before quickly rubbing away. She looked back at her mother, smiling nervously.

Sabine covered her mouth as a giggle escaped. "Alright then."

Marinette's phone buzzed and she retrieved it from her flower-printed apron. Her eyes widened at the time.

"Oh crud! I'm late!"

The girl's parents watched in amusement as their lovely daughter struggled to remove her apron.

"Late for what, dear?" her mother asked.

Marinette placed her apron on the hook. "I have to go the Agrestes'."

"I thought you were off today," Tom scratched his head. "It's the weekend."

"I am, but," Marinette grabbed her purse, "I have to get the ch-- present! The present for mom's birthday. That I took the job for."

"Oh!" Sabine gushed. "I'm so excited to see what it is!"

"You'll love it!" Marinette said. "I'm off to Adrien's."

"Oh, speaking of Adrien," Sabine suggested. "Why don't you invite him to dinner?"

Marinette seemed amused. "Really?"

Sabine nodded. "Yeah, I'd love to see him again! I want all my family to be here for my birthday. That includes my future son-in-law!"

"Mom!" Marinette blushed furiously, unable to avoid her nervous giggling. "Alright, I'll bring him home with me. But you can't say that in front of him!"

Both her parents laughed.

Her mother shook her head. "I won't."

Marinette sighed. "You know, I'm not sure if Gabriel will allow Adrien over again so soon..."

"Invite him, too, then," Sabine decided.

Marinette lifted an eyebrow. "You want to invite Gabriel Agreste, aka doom and gloom man that never leaves his house, into our home?"
