Strange Boy (2)

I had been noticing this boy. Well, he wasn't exactly hard to notice. He always wore light colors and a hoodie that covered his face, bits of white poked out from underneath.

I always saw him before and after school. Before school he always stood next to a specific tree. A medium sized willow tree with leaves that covered his top half. I pretended not to notice him, but lately I've felt...different. Like I have this overwhelming urge to walk over to him and just see who he is. I feel like I have known him my entire life. I look up and he's there. I've seen him in dreams, I feel like he is this untouchable being that I can only see.

"Kryoz. Kryoz! Dude are you even listening?" I shook my head and tilted it to the side. I saw a frustrated tall man looking down at me. His blonde hair was styled to the side of his head.

"Sorry Fitz. I was just..."

"Day dreaming about death again?" I shrugged my shoulders.

"Anything to get away from this hell we call an education system." I huffed loudly. My hands found their way to my hair, fluffing it up and trying to make it look less like I just woke up. Fitz let out a laugh and continued walking with me to the school. "By the way have you finished the English essay for Mr. Hansen?"

"Hell no it isn't due until next month. No way am I starting now."

"I know but...how do you even write it? I get that he wants to know more about us since school just started, but why ask, what do you love? I mean it has to be a full essay too." I scratched the back of my neck. "I don't know what to write about or how to even start it."

"I'll just make up some bullshit or something." Fitz let out a large yawn as we approached the steps of the school. I saw some women swoon over him at the edge of the staircase. He paid no attention and went inside with me.

Before I stepped inside I looked again for the boy. This had become so normal that Fitz even stopped and waited for me to follow him in. He didn't really ask about it anymore. I wonder if he even saw the boy at all.

The willow tree was, sadly, empty today. I wonder where he could be. Yes, there was some days that he wasn't here, but I just had a feeling he would be standing there.

Watching.

Waiting.

I took one last look around and when I thought I saw something my heart beat with excitement, only to slow realizing that it was a late student running through the trees to get inside. I gulped and walked inside.

The plain white walls had the schools red and black stripes running through the middle of them. The halls were tiled and carpeted with ten lockers dawning the sides of the school. My locker was near the back of the hall, Fitz was next to mine and a few of our friends hung out there as well. Today there was a small circle of familiar people near our lockers.

"Kryoz! Fitz! Nice of you guys to finally join us!" A small man came to our side. Well, I would never say that to his face. Let's be honest, he is slightly below average height.

"Sup Swagger. Nice to see you actually showing up to school." Fitz gave him a fist bump and they shared a laugh.

"It wasn't a choice, they just caught me red handed."

"Twice." Another voice spoke up. It was an African American male who was heavy set with a pair of glasses.

"What's up Grizzy?" I smiled to him.

"Nothing much. Just waiting for the two of you to show your faces. I was just about to kill McCreamy." He pointed to the last male standing in the corner seemingly watching something. I leaned over to whisper in Grizzy's ear.

"What the fuck is he doing?"

"Trying to pick up a spider that I specifically told him would hurt if it bit." He rolled his eyes. McCreamy gave me a backwards wave without looking. I hummed as a response. Grizzy turned over his wrist and looked down at his watch. His eyes widened with worry as he grabbed Fitz by the forearm and started to run in a different direction. "Guys a minute till class! Hurry the hell up!" I jumped up and ran with Swagger down to our first class. Anyone would have thought the school was being bombed with the way all of us dispersed and sprinted down separate hallways. It was just down the hall and right before my foot hit the inside of the doorway, the bell rang. Swagger burst out with laughter as he sat down in his seat and I walked in guiltily staring at our teacher...Mr. Hansen. He gave me a look of utter disappointment.

"John. Why are you late?" I cringed as he used my real name. I had asked all my teachers to call me Kryoz as a nickname...he was the only one who refused. Most of the teachers know what happened to my parents so they were happy to call me that. Mr. Hansen probably is the only one who doesn't know. After all, he is only a few years older than me.

"Sorry sir, you see I was..." I thought for a moment. "Well, I was looking for someone." Mr. Hansen furrowed his brows.

"Just take your seat. You are lucky it is only the second week of school. I would normally not give you this much leisure." I nodded and walked to the back of the class. I got a few stares from kids as I took the seat closest to the window and threw my notepad and pencil onto the table. Mr. Hansen did the normal, put his name on the board and wrote down our lesson plan. At some point while he was talking I zoned out and gazed through the window. I had a clear view of the willow tree and the surrounding forest. I tapped my pencil on my hand as to not disturb the students around. I spun it in between my hands and just watched the world go by. A beautiful sparrow passed by the window. It spun around in a circle and another joined it. They then sat at the window sill. I tried to make no movement as I looked intently at them. They were beautiful. Both were female and I could tell by their size. I was a fan of wildlife.

My best friend was a cat I found on the street. She died a few years ago, but I always feed the street cats I come across now. I would never take one home again because I wouldn't want to replace Gracie. That was her name.

She loved to watch the birds.

I placed my hand on the window and the sparrows flew away. I let out an unhappy breath and watched their path. They went down to the willow tree. I squinted my eyes and that's when I saw him. A boy with white hair and the palest skin I have ever seen. He wore black jeans and a light gray t shirt. This was the first time I had ever actually seen his head. He seemed to be in a hurry to get somewhere. I tilted my head to the side and watched him until his body disappeared behind the school.

I wonder where...

"JOHN! First you're late and now you can't even pay attention in class?
