"Please tell me you finally asked her," I said to Kiran as we were walking to the dining hall.
"It depends on what you mean by asked. If you mean asked as in if I asked her how her vacation has been than yes, but if you mean asked in like asking her out than no."
It took a lot of willpower from me not to slam my head into the wall right then and there.
"It's so obvious that you guys like each other, if you ask her out I'm sure she would say yes."
"Hey, guys, what are we talking about?" Vale's chirpy voice suddenly popped up out of nowhere.
"School," I said at the same time that Kiran said, "The summer break."
"Ehmm...," we both trailed off.
"School and summer break and how it's so boring to be back," Kiran quickly said and I nodded.
"Right...anyways..," she continued talking about something that happened to her during summer break that made her think of Kiran. (I think it was about a pigeon pooping out pink poop instead of white. Don't know what that had to do with Kiran, but it was typically Vale to spot something like that.). I just rolled my eyes at them.
We entered the dining hall by walking through two enormous wooden doors. (The doors were always open because they were too heavy to open every time you wanted to walk in). There were four large tables in the dining hall. It never really mattered where you sat, just that you sat somewhere. We sat down at our usual spot- third table from the left-and waited for the principal's speech to begin.
When principal Atinea finally did stand in front of the hall ready to speak it was half an hour later and the hall was three times as full as it had been before.
"Welcome to Orientalis academy, it doesn't matter if you're here for the first time or the last, you are always welcome. I have a few important matters that I need to tell you about before we start dining. First, the most negative news, the attacks by Wishes have grown bigger and more lethal over the summer break..." I shot a brief glance at Katie who was sitting at the table to the right of ours. She didn't look back at me. "The Wishes attacked the castle and sadly enough our beloved queen died in the process." Surprised gasps were heard all around me. The queen was loved by all Elementals. The Wishes had practically declared war on us by killing her. "On a hopefully more positive note: The crown prince Malakai Vermont is coming here to study with us. I trust that everyone will welcome him warmly and lovingly. He'll be arriving soon." Again a dozen of gasps were heard around the hall. (including my own.)
"Wait the prince is coming...here?" Vale whispered to us. "That's so weird, I've never heard of a prince in the history of Elementals coming to a public school."
"Maybe they were done with him in the castle," said Kiran.
"Yeah or they were afraid of the Wishes attacking him there," I said.
"That could be it, but then why send him to public school? I mean it's not the safest place to be."
Kiran and I just shrugged. "I don't know," Kiran said. "Let's just focus on the food we will be getting in a few seconds. I hope they have chicken wings this year." Vale and I just rolled our eyes. Seconds later the cooks strolled in with carts of food.
Long story short: They had chicken wings this year.

Plant structure had to be the most boring class ever. I never understood why I would need to know how many cells a plant has if I could literally make a plant grow on my hand out of thin air without knowing the exact cell count. Aside from it being a boring class on its own we also had a teacher that spoke in a really soft, monotonous tone. It made you want to sleep. Kiran wasn't even trying to pay attention, he was lying face down on his desk, snoring. (he snored so loud that you could practically hear the sound bouncing off the walls) I myself wasn't doing much better, dozing off with my face in my hands and neither was the rest of the class. Most people were sleeping against walls or on their desks and Ms. Wing just went on talking. To an outsider it probably looked like half of the class was dead.
