Chapter 8

“Skylar, calm down! It’s just me.” Will said while pinning me to the bed. “It was just a nightmare.”

I started crying. I grabbed him and pulled him closer to me. He gently rubbed my back.

“I’m sorry. I must seem like such a cry baby. I have so much baggage.” I said while wiping my tears away.

“You deserve to cry with what you have been through. Stop saying you’re sorry, and I don’t care how much baggage you have.” He said while holding me.

I laughed at myself. “I would have no idea what would have happened if you hadn’t moved here.” I said to him.

“All that matters is that I’m here now.” He said while holding me tighter. It was a little cheesy, but it was still sweet. “Now let’s get ready for school.”

I groaned. I did not want to go to school. I got dressed and picked Will up from his house, since he went home to change. At school we did nothing, so I slept in almost every class. Since I had the nightmare last night, I didn’t have much sleep.

Will woke me up at the end of each class. He really was sweet. Why hadn’t he moved here sooner? Life would have been so much easier with him. I took him home, yet again, and Taylor said that there was a party at ten. I told Taylor that Will and I would pick her up on the way there. I told Will that I needed time to get ready.

I went upstairs, and grabbed a strapless dress that went to my mid-thigh. It was green, and it made my eyes pop. I did my hair and makeup, and I was waiting for Will to pick me up. I heard someone ring the doorbell, and I ran to it. When I opened the door, it wasn’t Will.

“Well hello baby.” Jace said as he staggered through my door. I was scared to death of what was going to happen.

“How are you here?” I asked shocked.

“I made bail sweetheart. Oh, I just love you in that dress.” He said as he pinned me to the wall. I could smell the alcohol on him.

“Don’t touch me.” I growled.

“Someone’s feisty. You know I always loved you when you put up a fight.” He said as he touched his lips to my shoulder. I cringed at his touch.

“Get the hell away from me!” I screeched as I shoved him away from me.

He looked taken aback by what I had done. He slapped me across the face, and I slid down the wall, the tears blurring my vision. He kicked me in the side, and I couldn’t breathe. He was about to do it again, when he was tackled to the floor.

I finally pushed myself up to see Will on top of Jace. I quickly ran to my phone, and I called the cops.

“Don’t you ever touch her again!” Will yelled at Jace. “If you do, I will kill you.”

“I should kill you! You stole my girlfriend.” Jace spat at Will.

“She is not your girlfriend, and I didn’t steal her, if anything, you pushed her away.” Will said.

I was useless. I had no idea what to do. I yelled at them to stop, but they didn’t listen. The police eventually came, and they took Jace away again.

I managed to get a look at his smirking face to see he was pretty banged up. I ran over to Will who was yet again, telling the cops what had happened.

“Hey there.” He said as I ran into him with my hug.

“Thank you. I’m so sorry.” I cried into his shirt.

“Stop saying that. I’m a big boy, and I know what I’m doing.” He laughed.

I pulled him to me, and I kissed him. I didn’t care if his lip was bloody; I needed him. He was stunned at first, but then he started kissing back. I started to smile into the kiss.

This was the guy that I was supposed to be with. He had risked his life for me, and I didn’t even have to ask. I had to admit though, he did look pretty sexy with his face all banged up.

The police left, and I called Taylor and told her everything. She was my best friend, and she deserved to know. She was a little upset that I hadn’t told her before, but she forgave me quickly. She even told me that if she ever saw Jace again, that she’d kick his ass for me. I laughed at her; she truly was my best friend.

Will had to leave, and I told him that he could tell his parents. I didn’t care if they knew, in fact, they deserved to because their son was a part of it.
