Hourglass

29 5 4

I looked at my hourglass
hoping that time
would go
faster;
one
by
one
the sand
was falling.
the seconds
felt like hours and
the hours felt like days.

he told me that his sand
fell faster than he'd
fallen for me.
beat
by
beat
just like
the rhythm of my
heart when I saw him.
time was never on our side.

as the seconds grew longer, my patience fell short;
so I took ahold of
his hourglass;
one
by
one
fell the sand,
identical to mine.
time wasn't what he
lacked; it was time for me.
