Falling

I once loved a girl who was the fire to my rain
She challenged my every move,
She truly drove me insane
We were parallel lines,
Never on the same page
What bound us together was love masked as rage.

She drove me around the city,
Way past my bedtime
I was her craving and she was my crime
She changed my antics, transformed my world
My life was repainted, thanks to this girl.

She was a force to reckon with,
As stubborn as one could be
Changing her mind-
Was an impossible feat
We never saw eye to eye,
But that was the best part
We had nothing in common,
But the love in our hearts.

She laughed at my haircuts, made fun of all my dreams
She judged me for my intellect, yet we somehow stayed a team
I was the Teacher's Pet, she was never in class
I was full of sweetness, she was full of sass.

She wanted to be Icarus, but I pulled her to the ground
Despite our many differences, we were bound
She was the Venus to my Saturn,
So I won her with a ring
With marriage came responsibility,
And that changed everything.

We argued day and night, we never balanced the beam
The petty fights I loved were then harsher than they'd seemed
We were polar opposites, but we didn't fight the cold
We let our differences mislead us,
We watched our love unfold.

She made me try new things, just as she'd always done
But now they weren't so simple, it wasn't just for fun
She didn't want to settle, she wanted to travel on end
She didn't want a family, and we couldn't make amends.

I no longer admired her stubbornness,
She was unwilling to compromise
It had to go her way, else she'd pack her bags and fly
She felt that I had chained her, but it was she who had said yes
She was my tornado, and I was left to clean her mess.

She hurled insults every day, she made fun of all my goals
Before, I found it endearing, but it started to take a toll
Her words had cut scars, her taunts were embedded deep
She was slowly breaking the heart,
I'd given her to keep.

I once loved a girl, who was the ember to my flame
But as the years flew by, we weren't the same
I gave her a promise, I gifted her my heart
But all the reasons I fell for her,
Were the reasons I fell apart.
